Speaking at the Pastor for Life Luncheon, which was sponsored by Pro-Life Mississippi, Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures” who created us.
“They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship,” he continued. “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games.”
He then noted that he loves talking to lawyers, because he is a lawyer who went to “a secular law school,” so he knows that “in the law, [talking about God] just isn’t politically correct.” He claimed that this is why America has “lost its way,” and that he would be publishing a pamphlet “this week, maybe next” that contained copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, thereby proving that all the people “who found this nation — black, white, all people, all religions, all faiths” knew that America was “about God.”
Chief Justice Moore later defined “life” via Blackstone’s Law — a book that American lawyers have “sadly forgotten” — as beginning when “the baby kicks.” “Today,” he said, “our courts say it’s not alive ’til the head comes out.”
“Now,” he continued, “if technology’s supposed to increase our knowledge, how did we become so stupid?” Discussing Thomas Jefferson’s use of “life” in the Declaration of Independence, he said that “when [Jefferson] put ‘life’ in there, it was in the womb — we know it begins at conception. Why aren’t we going the right way instead of the wrong way?”
He later said that “you can’t be happy unless you follow God’s law, and if you follow God’s law, you can’t help but be happy.”
“It’s all about God,” he continued. “We’ve made ‘life’ a decision taken by man,” he said, and “taken ‘liberty,’ and converted it to ‘licentiousness. We’ve taken ‘pursuit of happiness,’ and reduced it to materialism.”
“Now,” he continued, “if technology’s supposed to increase our knowledge, how did we become so stupid?”
"We"? You got a mouse in your pocket Roy?
And he will say that the proof is in the bible, a muslim will refer to the quran, and a jew will say the same thing about the torah. A pissing contest that no one ever wins.
People like that just depress the shit outta me.
Well, Loren, you can get depressed if you want to, you have that right, and it is a natural response. I like getting mad better. I mean really angry, so infuriated that I would lift the skirts of any man or woman who thinks as Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court to see if he or she had matured past puberty into adulthood.
This makes me angry too. He needs to be called out.
Joan, I'd get mad if I thought it might be productive, if there were a useful vector for my anger. Problem is, Judge Moore is in his element - Alabama - where being a bible-believing christian is the norm and atheists eat babies and rob banks when they're not trying to undermine Amurrica. I'd like to think that Moore wouldn't last 10 seconds in Ohio, either ... but then I have to keep in mind that John Boehner comes from the Buckeye State as well, and he's a distance from being voted out of office any time soon.
Now ... if I can help backstop an Alabama atheist in kicking ol' Roy-boy off the judicial bench, I'd be glad to do it. HOW I could help, I don't know, but I'm here if someone is interested.
Bullies huff and puff, but when faced with competence and confidence they crumble like a crispy cracker. Sadly, the electorate seems to like ruffians.
Roy got re-elected? Damn, this would be the same as Illinois re-electing Blagojevich or George Ryan.
There are too many in position of power.
Or Wallker, or Kerner!
What would America be like if the Roy Moore's and there ilk were in charge? Their America is a Christian Theocracy void of us and anyone that is not a Christian. It's frightening to think about.
I'd say that it would be sort of what it was like when John Ashcroft was Attorney General and had like-minded bosses and subordinates.
Oh my goodness, this man is deluded and he sits in judgment of others! I can state, without reservation that following god's law does not bring happiness. It brings fear, grief, shame, anger, and unhealthy individuals, families, companies, governments and life on Earth. It's imperative to obey is the key element of dysfunction, its inescapable them is dominance of one individual over another, one nation over another. Obedience and dominance inevitably lead to discord.
What this Earth needs is intelligent people, using the tools of cognitive reasoning, thinking of how to solve problems without creating more. It needs effective and efficient action to bring about fundamental changes toward healthy functioning.
A mentally healthy adult know how to use these skills in ways that cause no harm.
Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court should be held accountable for his delusions. A superior court judge of Washington state once told me that the problem with this nation is that "women and niggers got the vote". Prejudice on the bench is no justice! Bias of judges cannot render fair remedy.
