Loren asked a question the other day, wondering if the real reason for the anti-Obama sentiment was race related. i'm starting to think that is the most likely cause. the linked article discusses 2 cases of GTP (formerly GOP) authorities caught forwarding blatantly racist Obama hate emails.
additionally, an Alaska man is suing to keep Obama off of the Presidential ballot because he is black, and he believes that the 14th Ammendment was ratified improperly or illegally. (http://www.politiscoop.com/us-politics/wisconsin-politics/760-alask...)
besides the color of his skin, what has Obama done that is so hateable? ok, there is the debt issue. of course, it might have happened no matter who was elected President, but i'll give them that one.
what else? not enough drilling? stopping the Canadian pipeline? oil prices in general? taxes?
i can see not liking the current President, no matter who he is, for all sorts of reasons. but the immense hate that you get from the anti-Obama crowd is delerious. they would vote for the Grand Wizard of the KKK before voting for Obama. actually, the Wizard might beat him in a landslide.
Giuseppe, I agree with you wholeheartedly, and I would go a step further ... people with religious entanglements need to be watched very closely to see what they have done in the past, how they make their decisions, and the decisions made.
Perhaps we need to do more educating about the role spirituality played in Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin. They were deists, as I understand, and is that not like humanists?
Patriot Act 2 (he said he would repeal this and close Guantanamo)
NDAA (making the world Guantanamo)
and now this...
I repeat- Obama is the worst president in US history. Or rather a somewhat average sort-of benevolent dictator... for now. Although I think Obama is really just the actor the powers that be chose for the face of public power. Divide and conquer.
The Republic is already gone.
That is so sad. It's same arguments that is always used against a President. "Oh, dear the sky is falling". But we clear thinking people know it was only an acorn.
I hope the "Republic" is gone. Maybe we can get our Democracy back.
You would have looked good standing in the breadline during the depression that Obama prevented.
"Maybe we can get our Democracy back."
Terry, the US of A has never been a democracy. Even on election days, we are choosing oligarchs.
I agree, our country was founded on representative government and that is not the same as a democracy. I doubt a democracy can work because of the ways working people respond to charismatic politicians and promises made and not kept.
That said, are we going to have to go into a deep depression to prove to those voters that glowing words are designed to get a large number of people on their train and stay on their tracks, which creates the booms and busts. Do we want stability? Do we want security? Do we want safety? Then wide wage gaps, unemployed workers, a lower pool of consumers with money to buy goods and services.
Checking your links out Will.
John Adams (our 2nd president) advocated for, and signed into law, the Alien and Sedition Acts. Have a look at what those laws entailed. Based on that, maybe we should consider Adams to be the worst president ever? Or how about FDR, for sending thousands of Japanese Americans to essentially indefinite detention in internment camps - how's that for depriving people of civil liberties? Maybe FDR was the worst ever?
The broader message, transcending politics, is that we humans tend to regard the current tough-times as the worst ever. The recent recession is the worst ever. The 2012 NDAA suspension of civil liberties is the worst ever. The corruption in politics is the worst ever. Our national standing in the world is the worst ever. I could go on and on... we magnify the present and forget the past.
Obama is not the principled leader that his campaign "promised", but to call him the "worst ever" ignores the 43 prior presidents. We have quite a collection from which to choose. Not even GWB was the worst ever - far from it. He was just a foolish man with a twisted idealism who was easily manipulated by schemers.
Obama is neither a savior nor a tyrant. He's just another guy with telegenic looks and smart tactics, who has succeeded in climbing to the pinnacle of power. He has neither restored hope nor enervated it. Did he prevent World Depression II? I don't know. But I will grant him this: he neither militarized society like FDR during the first Great Depression, nor did he flail around like Hoover. I won't argue that he saved the world, but I'm fairly convinced that he didn't make an already bad situation worse. And given the track record of American leadership, that makes Obama at least a mediocre president.
But back to the original question: why is Obama hated so much? Racism is one ingredient, but only one of many. The broader cause, I think, is that Obama is a flashpoint for anger of societal changes in America over the past 50 years. That includes minority vs. majority relations, issues of gender and sexuality, American anti-intellectualism, urban vs. rural values, technocratic vs. traditionalist government. While in persona and rhetorical arts Obama is compared to Kennedy, deep down he reminds many people of Adlai Stevenson and Hubert Humphrey. He represents "that" America.
what he said.
another smoking gun! a filmmaker made a video about Obama that shares a similar title to a book that was written by a communist/socialist/radical hence Obama is a communist/socialist/radical. gotcha. that's some sound reasoning by Beck. Andrew Breitbart just had his first smile since arriving in hell (tongue/cheek).
more smoking gun stuff!! this just keeps getting better and better. i need to thank my Mom for sending me these stories (even though she believes this shit).
my response to her:
did you read that article and manage to keep a straight face? let's see, the author (and sheriff) are taking the hearsay of a POSTAL CARRIER who's route was in the neighborhood of a family who supported a young man whose name he can't recall, but thinks he looked like Obama, who made claims about wanting to be President, as proof that Obama is...what again? i think i just had a brain hemmorage. the vetting of Obama keeps reaching new heights of insanity. if a mail carrier told me that i breath air, i'd hit up google real quick to double check. i'd be as likely to trust the memory of a toll taker who thought he saw Obama drive past his booth with a Black Panther bumper sticker on his care, which is to say, not very likely.
he's every bit as American as you or I. he may be a bad President, and maybe he should be voted out of office (i don't think so, fwiw) but THIS is not the reason why. you need to stop believing this stuff. it's madness i tell you, madness!!
