Kids as young as 10 choosing atheism over Catholicism

Washington-based researcher Mark Gray, above, has some bad news for the Catholic Church: youngsters are demanding proof that what they are being taught about God and religion is true.

In the absence of such evidence, they are leaving the Church in large numbers to become atheists or agnostics because there’s trend in popular culture to see atheism as “smart” and faith as “a fairy tale”.

According to this report, Gray, of the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University, says in a new report that the “whole concept of faith” is losing credibility with the young, who do not see God or religion measuring up to science.

Said Gray:

This is a generation that is struggling with faith in ways that we haven’t seen in previous generations.

Gray recently published the results of two national studies by CARA, which conducts social science research about the Church. One of the surveys was of those who were raised Catholic but no longer identified as Catholic, ages 15 to 25. The second survey was of self-identified Catholics aged 18 and over.

In exploring why young Catholics were choosing to leave the faith, he noted “an emerging profile” of youth who say they find the faith:

I'm not surprised in the least. Faith is not compatible with anything. "Faith" is believing something without any good reason, and those that profess to have it might tell you "god said it, I believe it, and that settles it." We have no instance on our planet of any gods speaking to man and making their will known. That's right. NONE. No god has ever revealed himself. Christians get angry if you tell them that Jesus isn't the only crucified or risen savior. Borderline believers will sometimes deny that anyone other than Jesus ever rose from the dead.

Biblical Accounts of People Raised from the Dead

1. Elijah raised the son of the Zarephath widow from the dead (1 Kings 17:17-22).

2. Elisha raised the son of the Shunammite woman from the dead (2 Kings 4:32-35).

3. A man was raised from the dead when his body touched Elisha’s bones (2 Kings 13:20, 21)

4. Jesus raised the son of the widow of Nain from the dead (Luke 7:11-15).

5. Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Luke 8:41, 42, 49-55).

6. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44).

7. Jesus rose from the dead (Matt. 28:5-8; Mark 16:6; Luke 24:5, 6).

8. Many saints rose from the dead at the resurrection of Jesus (Matt. 27:50-53).

9. Peter raised Dorcas from the dead (Acts 9:36-41).

10. Eutychus was raised from the dead by Paul (Acts 20:9, 10).

In the above you find 10 different times of people including Jesus who rose from the dead. Did they stay alive or have to die again? Why do believers claim that only Jesus was raised? Once you get out of the Christian scriptures you again find gods of every kind who could not be held by the confines of death. It must have been pretty common. There's nothing new here.

So, I'm not surprised in the least that young people are leaving the Catholic church and becoming atheist. We might find that it is in other churches too. As I've tried to demonstrate, faith is not compatible with anything and the very fabric of religion demands that you believe something on faith.
