It's a Carl Rose cartoon from the New Yorker magazine way back in 1935. What puzzles me is why any clergyman would bless hounds on their way to the hunt. It seems to be a well-established tradition.
Have a friend who is a fox hunter. She always takes her dogs to the "invocation of the mojo magic on the canines." If that's not goofy enough, every Spring there is a ceremony at Bald Knob Cross in Alto Pass, Illinois, referred to as the "Blessing of the Bikes," as in motorcycles. Some preacher or other such snake oil salesmen calls upon the the sky daddy to bless all the motorcycles. The darker side of me has always wanted to see a huge motorcycle pile up after this ceremony.
Our new pope guru blessed the motorcycles in St. Peter's Square, too.
