Chick-Fila-A Funding Anti Gay Religious Charities

I've just been reading a great piece on the Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters Blog, seems Chick-Fila-A boss Dan Cathy let his bigotry show in an article in Forbes Magazine.

The flames were re-ignited Tuesday when company president Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press he is “guilty as charged” of donating to anti-gay charities. Then the company tried to fix the problem with an announcement on Chick-Fil-A’s Facebook page that sent the whole controversy massively viral. Here’s the exact verbiage:

“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.
“Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family.
“Our mission is simple: to serve great food, provide genuine hospitality and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

Translation: “We’d like to close our eyes now, count to ten, and you should forget all about our fervently avowed political views — which we won’t be changing — and go back to eating our chicken a lot.”

Which didn’t work.

This non-response didn’t answer the questions on many people’s minds: Will the company stop donating to groups that are actively opposing gay-marriage laws, and controversial “gay-curing” groups such as Exodus International? Also, how are gay employees treated at the company given the corporate culture?

Yeah it's really shameful. We've been talking about it on my discussion I linked here. There is even a boycott - Sentinent Biped gives the link to the boycott in the replies.
I would suppose they do not hire gay employees. But I can't say that matter of factly.

Sorry, Cathy, we heard you the FIRST time.  Retractions of this nature are remarkably disingenuous, and no one with a working brain is going to be fooled by them.

Personally, I have ZERO intention of patronizing Chick-Fil-A now or in the foreseeable future, and I encourage my fellow atheists to join me in boycotting this bigoted organization.

Right Loren! They are just backtracking now. We should boycott them.

I was surprised to see a demolition site where the Chck-fil-a in my town used to be... Good riddance!

I'd be intrigued to know the circumstances behind that demolition and what business that particular franchise had done before it was closed.

Maybe mismanagement. It was in a good location and appeared to do a lot of business. It was definitely not due to atheist boycott. I don't think me and the other three atheists in Mo'Town had much of an impact on em  ;-)

ugh. and I love Chick-Fil-A so much (the chicken and fries). WHY :(

i've eaten there all too often, but i am done with them.  they've slipped me the pickle for the last time.

Why are some of you so upset?  It isn't like none of this was known before.

i didn't know.  i knew the owner was Christian but his fundie views were news to me.

I know you aren't but, there a couple posters who seem to be.

maybe it's just ... cheap crap
