My brother and I went to the State of Coahuila a few years back.  We circled the state, stopping off for a while in the biggest city, Torreon, and going north from there to inspect an old mine, then on to the small city of Mapimi, where there was a pageant on the road into town, blocking the traffic as Roman legionaires led a local Christ-guy across the highway, into a creek bed and up a hill to a site with three huge crosses.  Mexico is hugely Catholic, and they take their Semana Santa very seriously.
