this story is more than a little creepy.  check it out for yourself for full the creep affect.  i had just two major thoughts on all this.

1.  it is very disturbing that a man who was leader of the free world just 5 years ago associates with a group like this.  worse yet, Bush consulted with them before making foreign policy decisions.

2. i know we have no religious test for being elected to public office, but if you believe in the End Times dogma, shouldn't that eliminate you from holding the highest office in the land?

The real shame here is that nowhere in the constitution does it require that those running for the presidency of the United States be SMART.  While people might assume that those coming from governorships or from the House or Senate have experience in governing or dealing with problems local, national or international, possession of common sense, a grasp of science and mathematics, while desirable (and I would say: MANDATORY), are not to be found in the parameters for mounting a presidential campaign.

What's worse is that changing those requirements in the current political climate would be impossible.  Those guys have it good.  They know it.  They want to keep it that way.

George W Bush is something I never thought the US electorate would do.  And they did it twice.

None of that about wanting to bring on the apocalypse surprises me.  I do wonder, if people really think their actions influence the all great, all powerful, all knowing god they worship.  Doesn't he keep to his own schedule?

Given how destructive he was to the US economy, the US position overseas, and creating a ruinous war in Iraq, I think the best solution to Bush would be put him on trial for treason.  That won't happen either.  I just want to forget he exists.

Forgetting him and Cheney would be the best thing for this country.  Their war for oil and power was shameless.

If there was a force for balance in the Universe, they would suffer some sort of fate and connect the dots to their lives of crimes.  But there is not a force for balance in the universe, so they will probably live out their days thinking wallowing in wealth.

i'm not as worried about the fate of the world as you and Patricia seem to be.  ultimately, i think people will continue the path towards reason.  younger generations are always the solution to our problems.  i like what i see from today's youth - they seem to get it.

Not surprised! Disgusted but not caught off balance!
First, politicians, legislators, and judges, appear to be bought and paid for by some "invisible hand" known as ... I don't know who they are; however, there is an influence that pulls our nation away from a free one to a theocracy. Implanting fear of non-believers, making it unacceptable for freethinkers to speak out in public, has taken years, and it is a fact.

Second, they (whoever "they" are) use fears to intimidate those accustomed to being followers instead of thinkers. They use the Passive Gospel, i.e. yield, pray, obey, submit, acquiesce, relinquish, give allegiance to, forgive, turn the other cheek, crucify yourself daily, rejoice in your crucifixion, etc., to a higher power.

Third, they use promises of life after death that is so wonderful the gullible willingly give up life to achieve some kind of benefit for themselves. Even if killing life as we know it on Earth, they willingly and determinedly put into place those actons that will bring about their promised land.

Fourth, having created a submissive, dependent population, having kept USA an imperialist nation, taking wars to every continent, believing in manifest destiny, they commit genocide. From Native Americans to the Middle East, brave young men and women go off to kill and destroy other peoples while patriots wave their religious and USA flags, cheering them on. Many who give their lives in service of imperialism and those who return home with wounded bodies, minds and spirits, rely on food stamps to survive.

Cynical, you say? No! realistic!

So, what is a realist to do? First of all, come out from behind the curtain that never really provided safety, speak up about the senselessness of those victims who support such nonsense. Find courage and energy and wisdom to speak truth to power. Surely, to do so results in name calling, threats, and other juvenile responses. Consider the source!

The people of the Revolutionary War in 1776 faced opposition and took it on. Freedom is never free, it requires thought and action. The Native Americans who inhabited the Americas took it on. So did the Cubans, and countless other peoples who wanted freedom and received bombs and bullets and poisoned soil, as in Viet Nam and Cambodia, and the Middle East.

The "End Times" means the end of gratuitous grovelling to a non-existent power that never existed. It means discarding Bronze Age mythologies and start thinking of living fully in the here and now.

"In a quest to bring about the second coming of Christ." Think on that quote a moment please.

Hello, people! Let me get your attention here. At no place in your Buybull does it name things you can do to bring on this second coming, or make it happen, or start everything up a little bit earlier. It just is not there! You might want to believe that it is, hope that it is, and cause it to happen, but thinking it and believing it doesn't cut it. There is no scripture that covers this.

You remain a bunch of dumb shits believing imaginary things in a very real world! Sorry. You idea does not work. Never did. Never will!

Dennis, this kind of self-destructive nihilism, not only self-annihilation but that of everyone else, makes the perpetrators no less evil than Stalin and Mao in their eras.  Fortunately, here and now they have been stymied by, at least some accountability, oversight and the frustrating restrictions of democracy and bureaucracy.

You are right calling them dumb shits.  And they are also narcissistic, nihilistic, and just plain bad.

Your point about humans not being able to bring on the Apocalypse is spot-on.  I recall nothing from my years of Bible reading that in any way suggests that end-game is human-determined.  It's god and satan that play that game, with humans' lives about as important as ants.

it looks like this is getting some attention:

Maddow profiled the whole situation tonight.  i'll post the link tomorrow...if i remember.
