btw - some humanistic Jews do say a "thanks" for food, not to a god, but to the people involved in growing and producing it. I was glad to learn one such "b'racha" that's a concise and elegant edit of the traditional theistic one, cutting out the imaginary celestial middleman and simply praising "those who bring forth bread from the earth." (In Hebrew it's just five words.)
