So many times we hesitate to talk about beliefs of Agnostics, Atheists, Brights, Freethinkers, Humanists, Rational Responses, Secular Humanists, Skeptics, Spiritual Humanists, missing opportunities to bring about real social change. It is a taboo subject. When has silence ever solved problems or resolved conflict?

I want to get on the rooftop and shout out that I am an atheist and I am proud of it. My life is safer, more secure and far more stable as a result of giving up fairy tales and mythologies and facing the reality of life and living. Would you like to join me on the rooftop?

Here is another subject that has been taboo. How has anyone benefited staying silent about this subject?

At least the survivors are tough.

I keep wondering how humanity has survived despite filth & disease, so we must be a lot tougher than we think we are.

We are tougher than many of us think, but that's because many of us haven't thunk deeply.

A bit of deep thunkery will tell us our distant ancestors were the pond scum that didn't get ate by the bigger, badder pond scum...because our ancestors WERE the bigger, badder pond scum that ate the smaller, gooder pond scum.

So we are tougher than many of us think.

There's more, but I don't know the language of DNA research, so someone who knows that language can edit my recollection below from an article I read a few months ago.

Our DNA contains fragments of whatever killed off the viruses, bacteria, etc that ended the lives of some of our ancient ancestors (after they begat their offspring, of course). Toilets came along very recently so we really are survivors. Our DNA proves it.
