Free downloads in multiple formats, of some of Robert Green Ingersoll's works.  The following reviews make the works all the more rewarding.   These reviews on his work, "About the Holy Bible".

Ingersoll's intro:  "Somebody ought to tell the truth about the Bible. The preachers dare not, because they would be driven from their pulpits. Professors in colleges dare not, because they would lose their salaries. Politicians dare not. They would be defeated. Editors dare not. They would lose subscribers. Merchants dare not, because they might lose customers. Men of fashion dare not, fearing that they would lose caste. Even clerks dare not, because they might be discharged. And so I thought I would do it myself."

Also, Lectures and other works.

I"ve been reading the lectures.  They could have been written today.  Except they are more articulate.  Just amazing to read this stuff.

Considering the times when Ingersoll lived (1833-1899), I'm awed, his words still shock and dismay many people today.  One of the reviewers said, " Reading this book was like the taste of vomit in my mouth, and spewing forth all that is unholy. I could not finish reading it!"  The writer did not identify him/herself as christian, but there's no other was to regard them.  And that makes it all the sweeter.
