This happened last November and was reported by the AP on December 1, 2008:

"SAN ANTONIO -- A man who rammed his truck into a woman's vehicle on a highway early Friday told authorities he crashed into her while going more than 100 mph because God told him 'she needed to be taken off the road.'

"The truck rear-ended the car on U.S. Highway 281, both vehicles spun across a median then came to a stop along a barrier in the opposite lanes. Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.

"'He just said God said she wasn't driving right and she needed to be taken off the road.' Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokeman Kyle Coleman said in the online edition of the San Antonio Express-News. 'God must have been with them 'cause any other time, the severity of this crash, it would have been fatal.'

"The pickup driver did not tell police how the woman was driving. Police could not find alcohol or drugs in either driver.

"A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for a man."

While the article is not a model of good journalism (run-on sentences, poor referents, &c.), it perfectly illustrates the insanity of all who claim they can talk to "God." Perhaps we should order psychiatric examinations for some of our politicians, too. Especially one living in North Dallas these days. For that matter, perhaps the sheriff's office spokesman should be examined too: just because nobody was hurt doesn't prove there's a "God." Which also begs the question: if "God" told the pickup driver to take the woman off the road, why would he leave both unscathed? Sometimes "God" is awfully capricious.

In the late Ingmar Bergman's film, *Through a Glass Darkly,* "God" appears to a suicidal, psychotic teenaged girl as a spider crawling out of a crack in the wall. To me, that is as good a god as any and better than most.
When my daughter lived in San Antonio I visited frequently and always drove down 281. Sure glad I didn't meet up with this maniac! You're right scobru. Hearing voices is definately a sign of severe mental disconnect. Something I come in contact with every day. Life is soooo interesting for us unbelivers in the bible belt. Whatta laff riot......when we're not fearing for our lives. ;)
There is a report at about how George W. Bush told the French he saw the Mideast as the situs of a war to the end times pitched by Gog and Magog. Bush is a Dominionist who regularly talks to "God." He said he invaded Afghanistan and Iraq because "God" told him to do it. (He was probably on the sauce, too, but that is another story.) Only in America would a people elect such a dangerous lunatic to the office of chief executive. As a Dominionist, Bush and bin Laden had much in common: both believe that Armageddon is inevitable and that if one dies a martyr to their religion, one goes straight to Paradise. These people belong in mental institutions.
The voices in my head tell me I am perfectly sane and that my cat is plotting my demise.
If you talk to god you're religious. If he talks to you you're psychotic. I hope we have an open ward at Bellevue for this guy.
What "guy"? Oh, you mean the one in the photo?
