Pew Research has done a useful poll on increasing political polarization in the United States.

The main conclusion is that liberals have moved left and conservatives have moved right. Otherwise the attitudes are mostly just what you would expect. One mild surpise is that both liberals and conservatives support continuing social security. Very few even among conservatives are in favor of discontinuing it.

I'm glad they are in favor of continuing social security. It's the only frigging income I have! Oh, wait. I have a years celery in the bank and my investments are now making me $100 a month. Do you think I could live on $25 a week?
