“It is a very exciting time in viral genomics. Next generation sequencing technology will allow researchers to study as never before the evolution of viral populations worldwide. The completion of the HRV reference data set will open the door to mass comparative studies of rhinovirus evolution and global migration patterns.” - Dr. Spiro
All I can say is it must be a very exciting time right now in biology with the ability to not only sequence all kinds of genetic sequences and Genomes, but use that information and apply using what we know not only of our own biology but how it reacts with other type of genetic sequences (ie virus...).
Plus the implied ability to track not only the past evolution of the virus but its future paths with a Genomic (not sure if thats a word?) understanding of whats happening.
