In his speech "A Globale Agenda for Chage" Tony Blair, who very well might become the first 'president' of Europe, said:

“We face an aggressive secular attack from without. We face the threat of extremism from within.” Arguing that there was “no hope” from atheists who scorn God, he said the best way to confront the secularist agenda was for all faiths to unite against it. “Those who scorn God and those who do violence in God’s name, both represent views of religion. But both offer no hope for faith in the twenty first century.”

Well, isn't that nice. Them's fightin' words! Somehow I doubt he'd be willing to get in a boxing ring with me. :D 'd be willing to go up against him and W. at the same time.
I'll watch and bring pirate gear and popcorn!
"Sir, I challenge you to fisticuffs!"
Wow, this is kinda scary.
I agree!

I think it's more important than ever for non-theists to exercise emotional and social intelligence, looking for common ground with the deists instead of being contemptuous of them and scaring the bejesus out of them.

I have no immediate gut instinct on this, or it's been blocked out by a maelstrom of thoughts you just provoked. As much as I really, truly want to find common ground with deists, a good number (at least in my region) are highly contemptuous of us. I've presented myself as more than good evidence that, yes...atheists aren't evil...and regardless, people who were otherwise very glad to talk to me backed away pretty fast. But I think this reaction correlates to how very conservative religious folks act, anyway: blind and dismissive to very real and immediate factual evidence. Most of us already exercise emotional and social intelligence as it is; it's honestly not our job to go whole hog with it. We are a minority, and we won't get very far unless the majority loosens up. Their perception is irreverent to our actual existence, however wrong we prove it.

On the other hand, I know several ways atheists could screw the order of things, but I don't know how well an attempt to get atheists in political power will work...
Nothing like being equated with terrorism to really brighten your day.
This "leader" goes into a rant against a philosophical group that consists of about 3-5% of the world's population? HO-CHEE-MAMA!
Yes, it's quite crazy. You would think that atheist's were just being pumped out of some factory and are soon to overrun the world. lol
Well damn it, guys.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go shut down my Atheist training camp in the desert now...Can someone cancel my order of Kalashnikovs?

'pfft, thtz lyk soooooo last century!'

It's all about the double decka now. Get with it.

BAHAHA yes!!

Can I has upgrade now?

As a side note, that whole campaign was brilliant, and they need to stay up there! No one here has the true guts to put that on the side of, say, a coach bus or a NYC subway.
