150th Anniversary of Harper's Ferry.
He may have been a rabid Calvinist but Old John Brown was a radical FREE-thinker who was supported by many freethinking people black and white as he fought to end slavery. I highly recommend David Reynold's excellent bio of JB Abolitionist.

Susan Sackett, author of the controversial tell-all, Inside Trek: My Secret Life with Star Trek Creator Gene Roddenberry and four other Star Trek books will be giving a talk entitled Atheism in Star Trek at the general meeting of Atheists United, a Los Angeles-based freethought group. It will take place Sunday, Oct. 25th at 11 a.m. at the Center for Inquiry West, in Hollywood. The event is free and open to the general public.

Hi, all. This will be my first such conference. I've thought about TAM in the past. I'm a founder of deep in the heart of bible belt flyover country. We're not quite a year old but are very active and have 2+ meetings per week. If anyone wants to discuss group best practices (we're still learning) or have a drink, look me up.

Hi folks - I too am looking forward to meeting a bunch of neat folks! I truly enjoyed meeting all the people I did at the last conference. Some of the people I met at that conference remain friends to this day. I will have an exhibitor table on behalf of my own Ethical Culture community, the Ethical Culture Society of Silicon Valley. So come on by and say hello, check out what Ethical Culture is and does and enjoy some treats!

Atheist Meetup Groups are another great idea. Just plug in your country and zip code and you'll find groups near you, or a list of people in your area wanting to start a group. I'm a member of a meetup group that meets monthly for dinner at a local pub - it's great!

There are groups here on A|N for most areas of the world. There is one for Florida Atheists. You can also start one just for South Florida or the Keys. Atheists of Florida is an active affiliate of AAI. Finally, is always a good place to find and/or organize casual gatherings.
