Which band is less religious 20m or 17m ?

Started by Galen Thurber. Last reply by Emmett Hoops Apr 20, 2014. 4 Replies

I'm trying to decide which QRP HF band to use 20m or 17m. Which one is less religious? Heard that 17m was more classy, but a 17m antenna wont match other bands. Or should I build a quad or yagi and…Continue

I don't even bother trying to reply to the faithful any more.  If they bless me I just say have a nice day and 73.  Although when one sends me a tract in the mail for a QSL I will send them back one of the atheist tracts I've found online.

Emmett, write to me off-list for a cure for your dipole coax problem. As for the damned Christians pushing the prejudices and superstitions of the cult priests of ancient, tribal sky-gods, there's not much to be said there.  Though I have been annoyed enough to reply with quips like "If you hear the call of Osiris, be sure to answer it.  He's just dying to hear from you"

I'm on 30 meters most nights, especially when it's not too cold.  (My damn off center dipole is attached to a coax lead that I ingeniously cut to a length that makes it resonate as a third leg of the dipole -- thus it interferes with the augur motor on my pellet stove.)  Religion is always harder to get across on CW, though the other day a guy did say GB.  Which, now that I think of it, might have meant Go Blow.  Hmm...

Yep. FB is a time bandit. Worse 'n reading the Bible. Or Oahspe. Although I will admit that talkin' with "real" Mormons in Salt Lake City was rather interesting. In a couple different languages.

In the meantime: 1. Hamvention is the same weekend as the celebration of Norways bicentennial (Grunnlovsjubileet). For which I am primed.
2. Ain't been on the air too much active 'cause, well, my meds kick in just about net time & my wife has already passed out & I hate to disturb her slumber with my mumblings through the door across the hall.
3. I need to make the tower one section more taller. Which will involve more work 'n I wanna think about.

Damn Facebook takes up too much time! I haven't visited here in quite a while.

Two questions.  Are there still active members of this group?

Would anyone be interested in having a monthly net (maybe) on, say, 15 meters or even at the high end of 17?

flight distance link. Flight-Distances shame it has no bearing

On PSK, the "God Bless" signoff is ubiquitous.  I liked one response I saw the other day - "May the Flying Spaghetti Monster touch you with His Noodly Appendage" - I told the guy that, as a pastafarian, I greatly appreciated it!

To counter the evangelists on ham bands, instead of "God Bless"

say "may the godly be less"
