Personally, I think that the argument between god's existence v. no god exists is just, well, MOOT; who the hell cares? I really don't give a damn what other people believe and how they choose to spend their energies and lives on wasteful speculation on something that can never ever be proved or disproved. I'm not a true atheist because I fervently believe that I AM GOD. And no one can convince me that I am NOT. Further, no one knows anything at all in the first place. I only believe in facts and evidence as I come across it, and my not-so-subtle gut feeling about the matter is that every one of these filthy hypocritical organized MONEY-grubbing religions were created by man, thus it's all BALDERDASH. Furthermore, why on earth would, I, as a woman, choose to believe anything those wicked men wrote?
Mind control is a disgusting game in which I shall not participate. Further, my conclusion thus far about religious people of every stripe is that an overwhelming majority of them are the most unbelievable HYPOCRITES that I have witnessed in the history of the world. So, in the end, it's pretty simple to just say this:
Listen you filthy busybodies, mind your own goddamned business and get the hell out of my face.
I shall now leave a quote from an unknown source:
Religion is like a Penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around,
And PLEASE don't try to shove it down my children's throats.
Ever think of changing your name????
I really like my name...In fact, my friends just call me Christ.
For my part, I’ve written a satirical fantasy about a god that I, as an atheist, wish existed. It’s entitled Polly!, and it’s available in both paperback and ebook editions for them as are interested.
Amazon U.K. only have it on Kindle and Amazon U.S. don't deliver to Europe :-( I'll have a look for it next time I'm in London though.
You write well and I appreicate the enthusiasm you share. Please keep it up.
Thank you very much, Mark!! Welcome!!
I don't think in a time when the three major religion of the world are bringing threatening to plunge the world into a nuclear war because of their beliefs is a good time for atheists...or anyone...to espouse the 'live and let live' policy. I don't think when the United States is being kept from signing the Kyoto Protocol to try and at least put a brake on Global Warming by the Libertarian/Anarcho-Capitalist/Christianity bloc with their isolationist policies and their 'God gave us dominion over the world to do with as we see fit' and 'No need to worry about Global Warming or Middle Eastern war, Jesus will be coming in our generation and will save our asses' is time for atheists to keep their mouths shut. I don't think in a time when atheists are hated by 97% of the US...a figure far lower than the hatred to Blacks even at the worst of the days of Slavery and Southern Apartheid that followed a Civil War that did accomplished nothing but the deaths of 100s of thousands young men...is a time to keep our mouths shut.
I know these people as only a person who spent 40 years in the Belly of the Beast can know. I know their plans, their intentions and, most importantly, their fanatical dedication to the establishment of a Kingdom of God out of Jerusalem that will last a Thousand Years. I know that Premillenialism with its 'the world cannot be saved by mankind and anyone who brings peace to the Middle East is the Servant of Satan, the Antichrist and the will of their God is for constant warfare that threatens the very existence of our species is the biggest threat to world peace in our time...beliefs that are shared by Christianity, and the ultra-right wing Fundamentalist Israeli terrorists they support with money and political clout much like the old Irish Catholic bastards and the IRA.
Worse, the switch that is going on right now in the US from Premillenialism to the Dominion Theology of Postmillenialism nobody has the balls to bring up in this election year. These Fascists aren't waiting for Jesus to come. They believe that Christianity is destined to conquer the whole world, create a kingdom to rule...no democracy hell, not even a dictatorship...an actual Kingdom like from 2000 years ago.
So we have Christianity in the US fighting for world domination in the name of Jesus and Islam fighting for world domination in the name of Allah while the Israelis are waiting for the Messiah to come back and make their nation the 'spiritual center' of the world.
Fuck live and let live.
It's time atheist moved from being Militant to being Paramilitary if we want to stop the madness of religion before it kills us all.
Another lot of guns and bombs only makes the problem worse. More and better education is what the world needs. Look at how a girl with a book has affected the Taliban and how their reaction has alienated the people they want to control. Subversion by knowledge is a damn good weapon.
Wouldn't it be nice to think so?
I'm not suggesting atheists should become terrorists. I am suggesting that any group that is so hated by such powerful forces of religion and politics might give some serious thought to having a few guns around for self-defense purposes. That may be because I live in West Virginia in the US. My grandfather fought with the miners at Blair Mountain, the last armed insurrection on US soil. I grew up in the Fifties back when the United Mine Workers still had some balls and weren't just paid scabs of the coal companies. I've been through some strikes when my uncles and grandfather sat on the front porch with their 12 gauge shotguns and thirty-aught-sixes across their laps or within grabbing distance of their rockers. I learned about the Molly Maquires and Matewan and what it was like before the mines were unionized by the likes of 'the most dangerous woman in America' Mother Jones. I was in Kanawha County during the Textbook Wars when Alice Moore protested against the new books the schools were buying because they taught about other cultures and about Christianity as just one religion among many in the world and...in her own words..."Took it too easy on the coloreds" back when my people still used dynamite to express their opinions. I was a Marxist socialist during the Sixties and learned street tactics from the Black Panthers and Karl Marx from a professor at WVU who had to lie to the administration and tell them he was teaching 'existentialism' in order to get a room to hold the class. As the Sixties were dying, murdered at Kent State in Ohio by the National Guard, I learned about what Stalin did during the purges and figured twenty million dead outweighed whatever justice was in his cause. I did an about face and became a Libertarian back when they were protesting the Vietnam War and burning draft cards and lobbying for the legalization of all drugs. From there, I got involved in Messianic Judaism and the shadowy world of the Underground Right that had always been there and still is beneath the surface of Fundamentalism. I read the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as the unvarnished truth when I was a kid in a small paper bound copy put out on a mimeograph machine in somebody's basement. Saw the Protocols again in Milton Cooper's Behold a Pale Horse, the Bible of the militia movement that inspired Tim McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bombing, the greatest act of terrorism on American soil by American citizens of all time. Now those same bastards are running a Mormon...a racist misogynist, "believing the American Indians are the Lost Tribes of Israel" Mormon, for Christ's sake...for president and it looks like they've got a fifty-fifty shot of winning.
My point is, I've spent most of my life in the Underground Christian Fascist Right of this country. I still live in West Virginia. It's my home and, frankly, I've never been able to afford to get out of the US even though I tried during the Eighties and would leave now if everyone who ever told me 'love it or leave it' would give me a dollar towards my expenses. Things are worse now, in this country, than they have ever been in my sixty-two years of living.
No, I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who live in liberal states or university towns in Ivory Towers or in other countries where all they see is the media version of the US. They can afford to talk about knowledge and education as weapons, no offense to you in particular Ian, when our enemies have been stockpiling real weapons for over half a century. They just don't know what is really going on down there in the Underground. They're clueless and hopelessly naive. They don't think it will ever touch them. They don't think it will ever show up on their doorstep like a clown at midnight.
I'm a lot older than my years and a lot tireder. All I really want is to get out of this country, buy a nice place near Kyoto and make a pilgrimage to Hiroshima every year on their national day of mourning to ask forgiveness.
