Nicky has TWO litterboxes, but b-i-l never cleans them, as his brain damage left one arm useless. He relies on a voluntary worker, who helps people maintain their pets in the care home. Luca and I are b-i-l's only relatives ( at 30 km by public transport ) and b-i-l has no friends like many autistic people. We're trying to bring in an expert on autism - the staff of the care home don't know how to manage b-i-l. He is more misantrope than ever.

You could call this a complex problem....

Doesn't Luna have access to a litter box, or is that not the problem. Yes, I know cleaning a litter box is not the best job in the world, but elder care facilities sometimes make accommodations for pets. The cleaning crew and the staff often state they have inadequate wages and they are over-worked. I do hope that problem gets solved so that everyone accepts a solution. I suppose b-i-l has no relative or friend who is able and willing to take Nicky?

Comment by Patricia on Monday

Probably the best for Luna, & yourselves too.

24 hours was enough to decide that Nicky isn't going to change her ideas about being the one and only. Luna has made a few offers for peaceful co-existence in that time, but those were rejected.

So we took her back to b-i-l and everybody was happy, except for the cleaners in the care home.

I tried to find out more about Nicky while she was here; about 16 years old, a dangerously low weight - 1.2 kilo - but very strong willed!

Yes, some cats are not very adaptable.....I guess its a wait & see position.

Comment by Plinius on Sunday

I did this a few times before, even when I lived in a one room apartment, and always with success. But Nicky is not very flexible, I think.

Comment by Patricia on Sunday

Oh, right. Being in a house, I forget that part.

Comment by Plinius on Sunday

I know, Patricia, but it doesn't work in a two room apartment...

Comment by Patricia on Sunday

She needs to be in a separate room for awhile until she adjusts to being moved, then slowly limited supervised exposure.

This is b-i-l's cat,Nicky. We took her home yesterday because of the conflicts b-i-l has in the care home. Nicky is not an easy guest, she started scaring our Luna right away, to the point that Luna lives on the window-sill and hardly dares to eat. They both want to be the one and only.

Any ideas?
