I saw this today in this months Nat'l Geo, and had to post it. The Egyptians must have really loved cats- this opening stuff about the hundreds of thousands of cat mummies is amazing. How long must it have taken to accumulate so many mummies that the English actually used them for fertilizer on such a grand scale?

Quite the contrast to how they were treated in Christian Europe for centuries.
Thanks for posting that! I had always heard that Egyptians revered cats, but knowing that some were sacrificed as votive offerings has made me reconsider this.
