Interesting that you mention emus, Chris.  Aron Ra used to have one and tells a couple pretty good stories about it.

That's a cute picture Joan.

Animal friends are interesting.

I raised three chickens from hatchlings. My cats got along great with them. One of the chickens I had named Penny used to come when I called her. It was neat how she would raise her wings and drop her head as I scratched her back. She purred like a kitten.
Penny would follow me around the yard along with my cats

Having tame chickens, or ducks around is fun. Fowl can be raised in suburbia in most townships.

I wouldn't recommend Ostrich,or Emu as companions (if you have a couple of acres). They can be mean and combative. Same with geese.

Patricia, I wasn't able to see "Cat has chicken pox..." so I Googled the title and came up with this photo.

Wow, I've been away and not able to keep up with things online. The Ordering Yarn post got an involuntary giggle, and inspires thoughts about just how little fiction there is in it. The toys under the couch, how true, but I thought I had a house full of too many toys....the Topiary cat....hummm, not sure about some of those but the top one I keep coming back to as it's just so easy to visualize.

Some interesting artistic carving.......
