Chris, I am very sorry to learn of Dido's condition. You shared many happy hours because of him. I enjoyed your stories of him and your shared life. My thoughts remain with you.

Thanks GC!

Nine cats old by now, most of them now rocking on the rhythm of the North Sea - their ashes were brought there. Dido about to leave, although he asked for food just now. I gave him a little bit. When Dido is gone, there´s only Luna left..

I too am sorry to hear about Dido. He obviously has a human who loves and cares for him a great deal!

Thanks Ruth! Six happy years for Dido, and one year of steady decline - it´s more than some of us get, so we must be content...

My condolences on Dido. You can only do so much.

Thanks, Loren and Spud, it helps to share with you. I can´t get any sign of pain from Dido, so perhaps he has no pain, but he´s so weak now that he can´t do anything but wait for death. ´ARE YOU COMING, MR. DIDO?´

I could spend all that money once, by skipping holidays, outings and necessary things, but a second time is really impossible.

Perhaps another vet tomorrow for that last injection...

I'm terribly sorry to hear about Dido, Chris.  We've lost two cats in the past three or four years and in both cases, we euthanized them because we didn't want them to suffer (and in Boo's case, I have no doubt but that she was hurting).

There's no easy answer for this one, I'm afraid, at least not from where I sit.

Plinius, I'm sorry about your friend Dido.

If I'm correct, 1000 Euros is $1060, that's a horrible price for nothing.  Even for something.

Comment by Plinius on February 10, 2017 at 10:17am

My poor friend Dido won´t be with us long. Diarrea for half a year until I found the food that stopped the flow. The vet did examinations and sent bills but couldn´t/wouldn´t do anything that helped. Dido was far too stressed at that point, he made it very clear that he didn´t want to leave the house. So I listened to him, made him comfortable and calm, and he seemed to get better...

He was happy and almost his old self again, but in the months that followed he slowly lost weight. I didn´t go back to the useless vet, thought about another vet, but suspected to lose another 1000 Euros and hearing that that vet knows nothing either.

So no vet, but Dido is emaciated in spite of all he ate. He seems to have stopped eating today and turned incontinent.

I´m reading on the Internet about ´letting nature have her way´ vs having your cat put to sleep. It´s another YES-NO discussion and it makes me sadder still.

Who has any experience with cats dying like this?

This is of course an older pic of Dido in happy days...
