Mindy, I needed to lose the weight (and about 20 lbs more), but I wasn't really trying.  I just cut way back on the simple carbs (white food, mostly), and substituted whole grain breads, which have more flavor, anyway....brown rice, when I want rice (seldom); the only problem with brown rice and barley  is that they take twice as long to cook.  Big deal.

My sister needs to lose at least 100 lbs, and can't do it because she eats cold cereals, "low fat" junk, pasta with every dinner, and brands of yogurt with High Fructose Corn Syrup added as sweetener.  I don't dare try to tell her anything, she'll scream and slam things (including me) around  for days.  I mean, she could buy plain yogurt and add sucralose and fresh fruit...or make salads with yogurt and vinegar dressing...  All sorts of things.

I've been using Splenda/sucralose for almost 15 years, and I don't have any problems with it.  But I really started losing weight when I started with the whole grains, as much meat (fatty or not) as I wanted, and dark green veg....spinach, broccoli....but I have Asian stir-fry with a bit of everything, including snap peas, red and green bell peppers, at least once a week.

And most of the time I'M NOT HUNGRY!  I don't crave anything. I hate to exercise, so I don't.  I let the cats do that.  ;>)

I should have added, "And gained a lot of wrinkles."  Pumpkin PI is 15 years old now, and hasn't changed a bit.  Active as ever, although lately he's learned to cuddle (and beg for tummy-rubs) under the blankets with me in the coldest part of the morning.

Any Peeping Tom with eyes like that can look at me!

Oh, I luvz teh floofy cat fohtoz!  I've been trying to get a good pic of Freddie, but she's black all over, and still not completely used to us, (we adopted her in October) so it's rawtherrr difficult.  And the only time she holds still is when she has her face in the kibble bowl.

But I'll keep trying.

@Loren: Have you noticed that cats just know when their humans need some extra comforting? I can't count how many times when I've been depressed or upset about something, and one of my cats will stick to me like glue, lick my face (if I'm crying...been a long time since I've done that!), or just cuddle next to me no matter where I am.

Even other people's cats will do that.  I was cat-sitting over in Hollywood the week my father died, and Ivan (the Cat) followed me everywhere, watched TV with me, read over my shoulder, and slept under the covers with me.  He'd never done anything like that before. He was usually aloof...I was supposed to be his servant. Surprised the *bleep* outta me.  And it did help.

Loren, your 14-pound fluffy looks so much like my neighbor's peeping Tom:  I call Boots that because he's always peering in our windows, lol. And sk8eycat, I love the cute public service announcement. ;)
