Atheist Humor

This is the place to post that hilarious irreligious YouTube video, an irreverent, anti-religious cartoon, or other humorous bit of media. Posts that do not reflect an atheist/irreligious theme will be deleted. (Don't make me go Old Testament.)

I keep driving by a sign on a local church: "Why worry when you can pray!"

Sorry....does either of those approaches actually DO anything???

Maybe praying makes you FEEL better....but other than that, it seems to be just as ineffectual.

Yup, you see God on the signs of almost all of the homeless people begging at highway exit-ramps, around here.

I saw a man on the side of the road holding a cardboard sign that I thought said, "Broke, Godless."  Yay for the godless part, I thought.  (When I got closer I saw that it read, "Broke.  God Bless Everyone."  Oh well.)

I wouldn't say that it's parents who are raising their children atheists that is causing the big jump to 30% or so in the under-20's. Most of those are becoming atheists in spite of their parents.

It's the newer, more global culture that is causing it. We're more connected and more aware of other countries than we have been in the past. America is still one of the most oblivious countries on the planet, but we're getting better.

Previous generations had a more local, dogma-reinforcing worldview, which helped propagate fundamentalist Christianity. With our new awareness of other religions, the old "What if I'm wrong, and there really is a god?" bullshit doesn't work to keep people scared and in the pews, anymore. The brighter, more thoughtful ones are breaking away. The recent push of the new atheist movement has just helped that along, giving the kids a sense of a community to join, so you no longer have just the loners.

The way I see it once the older generation dies (49+) It should be easier for the younger generations to break away from ignorance of religion. While people like me raise their children as atheist members of society, with no religious knowledge (if you want to call it that) whatsoever. We should be the dominant percentage within 50 years or so. I hope I live to see that day-maybe the happiest day of my life. I can Imagine turning churches into schools and hospitals and recycling bibles to make textbooks. Awesome!

"Nothing just starts! There must have been a first mover! That first mover is GOD. HE always existed, you know."

Dean, Something really resonates about one of your quips: "...why would it even exist?"

No.. I'm from Barbados, where atheist aren't represent 0% of the population. I'm the only positive atheist I know.

Dean, according to a Pew Research poll in 2008, or '09, we are now 15% of the adult US population, and growing.  Among college students, non-believers are more like 25% or 30%.  There is hope.

I was dumb, I thought they would quit their churches in droves when their imaginary hero didn't show up in 2000...  Silly me.

Somehow the religious don't understand me when I ask: "Why would an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent entity be emotional [enough to care about our feelings toward it]... Why would it create anything? Why would it even exist?" They answer: "You're going to hell, devil worshipper!" It sucks living in a 0% atheist society.
