@ Riomarcos did you notice that the cartoonist in the social Darwinism cartoon mistakenly called "us" Darwinists rather than Darwinians (or simply educated people). What really worries me is that my spellchecker (which is American based) recongnises the incorrect term as being OK and flags Darwinian as an error. Dear o dear.

Yippee!  Wisconsin is not a part of Jesusland!

I live in Canada and Riomarcos, medicare (and marketing boards, reforms to welfare, unemployment, etc.) came in place in the late '60's when Pearson formed a coalition with the NDP (requirements of the NDP). The Conservatives were very much against health fact the conservatives in AB are still trying to privatize...just saying. Other than that, most politicians of any party in the rest of the country won't touch it because it would spell political death, not because the conservatives like it.  Anyway, last I understood this was a "humour" site, so enough said...again, just saying (^_-)

Okay, last statement because I realize this is the wrong forum for this great discussion. If China makes good stuff honestly we are not getting it. Trust me. Please don't be one of those silly people who are looking under every rock for racism. I judge everyone on their own merits. I grew up with that and like religion I was sick of it before I could walk good. I have watched many companies shut their doors here and watch it move to China or Mexico to send back nothing but junk. Sick of it. Yes I know fully well China is capable of producing a great product but being smart business men they are not sending them here as to yet. Japan did the same thing after WW2 And then when to sending many better quality products than we can produce here. China someday will follow suit. Rather the U.S. economy can survive that this time is up in the air. You sound like you just have a problem with us. Gee would that make you sound a little racist. LOL Please I'm just kidding. No offense meant.

And back to business after that short break...

This is true, Tommy. O'bomber is trying to fix for the US what our coalition is trying to fix for us. Greed is what brought America to its knees - free trade provokes growth through evolution.

When you say something like this:

"Clinton is the one who opened American doors to free trade with China, which means china floods our country with junk and take all the jobs and business back to China."

That sounds awfully racist not to mention protectionist: precisely the sort of crap that people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin make a living spouting.

The Asians make a lot of great stuff; their cars are (much) better, their electronics are better and so on - hell the chances are your computer was mostly made in Asia (all 5 of my macs were, as was my iPad and both the iPods) - only the OS is American! True that they also make a lot of crap: but you can't judge an entire country (or people) by a slewed statistic.

American cars are, on the whole, poor in quality and (from what I've read) have been subsidised for years. We had the same system here but eventually, the gvt. pulled the plug (way too late in my view) and the whole lot shut down. American made cars we see here (Chrysler Neon and so on) are a laughing stock among mechanics: and hated by owners.

Now I don't personally see all Americans this way - but a hell of a lot of Europeans most certainly do.

What Hayley probably hasn't discovered yet is that our conservative party (our right wing) is way to the left of your left wing (democrats); but our left wing (save for the extreme loony-lefties) are quite right wing of the far left in the older communist states.

British politics is some way aligned in the center of the countries that it separates (but upside down if my geography is correct).

The problem with our system is it's centuries out of date and no longer fit for purpose. In fact, I suspect the same applies to most of the developed world.

If anyone wishes to discuss these points, perhaps we should start a discussion though - the comment wall is best left for cartoons of jackasses being jackasses.

When Clinton left office we had a surplus.  Obama inherited the mess left by Bush.
Comment by Tommy on January 6, 2011 at 2:35pm

Well lets see. Clinton is the one who opened American doors to free trade with China, which means china floods our country with junk and take all the jobs and business back to China. This makes him the major reason for the poor economical state we are in. Obama instead of bolstering a failing economy put us Trillions in Debt and we have little to show for it. However they did look dang spiffy giving a speech. Thats all it takes to be in American politics. Now I am going to move before the liberals find where I am LOL

Sorry to be OT, but to answer you Tommy, the UK is precisely like that.

You see here is my whole problem with American politics. I am a little closer to the right than the left since I think the you owe me society is all wrong. I think a financial structure that works well will take care of us all. However if I say I am on the right I am associated with Beck, Limbaugh and the joke from Alaska Palin. Not to mention politicians kissing up to the religious right for their votes. I need a third party with no clowns or tea bags who will  not spend more money than we make. Now is there a country that has all this? Kinda doubt it so we will just have to make do.
