This is the place to post that hilarious irreligious YouTube video, an irreverent, anti-religious cartoon, or other humorous bit of media. Posts that do not reflect an atheist/irreligious theme will be deleted. (Don't make me go Old Testament.)

Lewis Black: The Flintstones is not a documentary.

A slightly longer version of the clip that used to be here.

The jump to her being a virgin isn't such a wide one, by the standards of mythology.  There were so many mythical heroes who were born from virgins; it makes sense that Jesus would morph into one of those, even without the linguistic assistance.

Funny, the original Hebrew babble, I mean bible, never said Mary was a virgin, only that she was a young girl, so Bellarmine WAS wrong on on both counts.

Sometimes, I almost wish there was a hell for people like Bellarmine.  Not for eternity, but long enough to let him know how it felt to be torched.

Oops, sorry.  This is supposed to be Atheist "Humor".

Funny how religious leaders' proclamations often fall short. Cardinal Bellarmine, the guy in charge of barbecuing Giordano Bruno for heresy, had this to say:

To assert that the Earth revolves around the Sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin.

And Joseph Smith said he was greater than jesus christ.  What an ego!

I just had a thought about Brigham Young.  Most of the leaders of Mormonism were egotistical, but I think Brigham Young was the worst.  His saying people also live on the sun, may have just been him trying to impress people that he was smarter  and knew more than Joesph Smith. LOL.

Well, actually, the most wrong things they say, is that there are gods that care about us, but I assume we all take that as a given.

Qiana, that's a good guess, but Wikipedia indicates"At the 1970 press conference where Smith was introduced as President of the LDS Church, he was asked about these statements; Smith reportedly responded, "Well, I was wrong, wasn't I?"[31][32]

If he said that to me, I would say yes, you were incredibly wrong about that and many other things, just as all the leaders of the church have been.

Brigham Young probably said the most things that were wrong.  Things that he said were from god, but leaders after him said were wrong.

They try to justify all their wrong prophesies by saying, Oh, he was just speaking as a man, not as someone relaying what god told him.

To me, the 2nd most incredibly wrong thing said was by Joseph Smith (the 1st one), that said there were people living on the moon, describing them as taller than humans.  The most incredibly wrong thing was said by Brigham Young.  He said not only were there people living on the moon, but on the sun as well.

Spud that is a remarkable statement; and one that goes into my file. Obviously, he bases his religious beliefs on flawed thinking, just as we in this country have our politics and economics based on flawed thinking.

There will have to be a tremendous change in thinking before we can function in a healthy, sustainable way.

The first thing we have to do is get religion out of government, and get Milton Friedman and his disciples out of our economic and political life.

Here's a quote from one of the leaders of Mormonism, only 8 years before we put a man on the moon.
