On Feb. 9th, California Rep. Pete Stark (D-13th District) introduced House Resolution 81, calling for the designation of February 12, 2011 as Darwin Day in recognition of the ground-breaking work of Charles Darwin and the importance of science to bettering the human condition.

"Darwin’s birthday is a good time for us to reflect on the important role of science in our society,” Representative Stark said. “It is also a time to redouble our efforts to ensure that children are being taught scientific facts, not religious dogma, and to fight back against those who seek to undermine the science of climate change for political ends.”

I wrote my congressman. But he's a Democrat and we're not a particularly religious area, so my guess is he'd be supporting it even if no one ever said anything to him about it.

Yeah, that's one of the problems of living in a liberal area.  My representatives already vote pretty much the way I'd want them to.

Honestly, though, I'm not sure what good it really does telling conservative politicians to vote for liberal causes.  They've got to realize that you're not representing their base, and you won't be voting for them in the next election, anyway.

I hope its taken seriously.
