Iowa House votes to repeal gay marriage despite 19-year old's eloquent plea

What a speaker this kid is! He could move a heart of stone. Unfortunately, Iowa's very Christian legislature has harder hearts than that.

On Feb.1, the Iowa House of Representatives voted 62-37 in favor of Joint Resolution 6, an amendment which would prohibit currently legal same-sex marriages. The vote was taken after hearings which featured speakers on both sides of the issue, including a remarkable young man named Zach Wahls. Wahls, a 19-year old Iowa college student, was raised by same sex parents.

More, including a video of Zach Wahl's testimony, here.

It is very sad that in spite of this young man's extraordinary speech, the House voted in favor of this resolution. Why this country incessantly blends church and state escapes me. We just have to keep fighting the good fight for gay marriage.
