NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints are going to court to keep the public from seeing hundreds of emails that allegedly show team executives doing public relations damage control for the area’s Roman Catholic archdiocese to help it contain the fallout from a burgeoning sexual abuse crisis.
Attorneys for about two dozen men suing the church say in court filings that the 276 documents they obtained through discovery show that the NFL team, whose owner is devoutly Catholic, aided the Archdiocese of New Orleans in its “pattern and practice of concealing its crimes.”

When I read the above on my evening HuffPost news feed, I just about dropped my teeth. That a major NFL team would collude with the Roman Catholic Church to hide allegations of serious sexual misconduct by the latter is (to me and I suspect MANY others) exceptionally big news. If the above-mentioned emails do come out (and let's be real now; the cat IS out of the bag!), the impact on the NFL and the Saints could be major, if not on the church, which continues to weather such revelations without the kind of impact they deserve.
This is a story I mean to dig into ... because this could be truly huge.
It just keeps getting bigger, & bigger. Trying to put that cat back into the bag ain't gonna happen.
Roger Goodell may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I suspect even he will have little tolerance for this brand of under-the-table dealing, sure as hell when it has the opportunity to seriously besmirch his multi-billion-dollar baby. The owners of the Saints may have just stepped into it, big-time.
We shall see.
