Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

@Meag. Thanx for the clarification. I am puzzled by the "story" status. It's been propagated on a number of blogs without much in the way of clarification vis the law (as of a couple of days ago).
@TNT, @Joan. Thanx also for the clarification. I agree with what you say as one tactic. It is a good tactic. A campaign's strategy is best served by multiple tactics, however, and one of the most important tactics is to confront the enemy on their own ground. I think to ignore religious provocations (posted on facebook, say) is equally to allow them to set an agenda.
I think we have an agenda; the advancement of science and reason.
I'm all for atheists getting together for coffee and chit-chat, demonstrations and counter-demonstrations, but I'm leery of becoming too organized. Successful organization begets Power. Power corrupts.
Religion and superstition are in a natural course of decline, have been since the Enlightenment and even prior to that. We are winning. I guess the question becomes; do we settle for the current pace or do we ramp up the pressure. Of course, the harder we push, the harder they'll push back.

TNT666, I like your image of the sandbox. If the "religious set the language and the game" it is like living in a sandbox used by the neighborhood cats to deposit their waste. It stinks, holds bacteria that makes one sick, and does not support the beauty, abundance, and wealth of resources surrounding us.

Plants need such composted refuse to thrive, so turn the sewage into a resource and create our own vision.

@Pat I believe such issues are a matter of shifting paradigms. If you let the religious set the language and the game, you lose.

We have to change the paradigms, determine our own agendas, not play in their own petty little sandbox. This is the dems have such a hard time getting anthing done is the USA. Dems let GOPs set the paradigms. This is what needs changing.

"No they can't. They don't have the jurisdiction to do that at all."
But yet we have prayer at tons of city counsels, 10 commandments in courthouses, 'so help me god' in oaths, prayers at football games, Office of Faith Based Iniative, prostheletizing army chaplins etc. The list goes on and on, not mention the science & education problems.
That's why we still talk about it, and must talk about it. Not only is reality not an issue for them, the laws often mean just as little

@tnt666. I believe we should support these kinds of initiatives, whether or not we might quibble with some of the minutiae. Facebook can be influential. Hey, they got Betty White hosting SNL.

Not being American I don't know for sure, but can a state enact a law affecting an area of federal; a federal election? I know the states are pretty protective in the reverse scenario.
Comment by Susan Stanko on May 16, 2010 at 8:02am
Well, they DO want to pass a law making it a requirement to show a birth certificate before running for office. I wonder if the Tea Baggers would accept being born on an army base? If not, sucks for McCain.

I find it a bit insulting to put evolution up against the exact same benchmark as creationism, 1st June, 1million, that is utterly depressin. The page admin (who fails to put contact info) should have aimed for 10x faster or 10x as many members, and definitely lose the whole 'believe' thing. IMHO, pages like this actually enable and validate the opponent by engaging them in ridulous games at a level set by ridicule... I can not partake.
