Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Shelley's essay is wonderful.

Trying again.

This British writer offered "atheist prayers" for terrorist victims.  There was lots of criticism.  People like to be critics.

Poet Percy Shelly, who lived in the early 1800s, was a known atheist. " The young poet found Christianity detestable, infusing his thoughts on psychology with scientific ideas."   The "Necessity of Atheism".  The article is illustrated by a praying nun :-)

No surprise, religious people have more babies, and some think that means there will be fewer atheists in the future.  I guess than means, everyone stays in the religion they were born into, right?

Despite murder of an outspoken atheist in Hindu India, there are still courageous people who speak out.  "At the end of the event, the 500-strong audience filled up forms pledging to donate their organs."  I just hope they don't have to donate, soon.

Daniel, O'Hair was indeed a hero but do use care with words. She did NOT get prayer removed from public schools; she got OFFICIAL prayer removed. Any kid who wants to pray privately can do so at any time.

No public employee may lawfully mandate prayer or use school time or property (PA systems, etc) to impose it.

I probably should not have included the article about the president.  It's like when you remodel and do work on dry wall, and the dry wall dust permeates everything in the house no matter how well you tape plastic across the doorways.  I check Nexus less these days because of that.  I hope the other articles are useful.

...I don't want [tRump in our group], and I suspect that he's highly religious when it comes to worshiping the diety, "Donald Trump"...

With our Republican president*'s budget blueprint that's likely to kill more Americans every quarter than al-Qaeda and ISIS-inspired terrorist attacks have killed over twenty years, "die"ty is an apt description!

Sometime last year I heard a quip that evangelical Christians and tRump are an excellent match. Evangelicals are all about obeying God, and tRump thinks he is God.

Atheist News group has not been active in a while.  Here are some recent news stories.

"The Most Hated Woman in America" gets her movie.  Madelyn Murray O'Hair was indeed the most hated woman in America, after taking her case to the Supreme Court and getting prayer removed from public schools.  I remember school prayer, and I remember O'Hair.  She should be recalled as a hero to atheists today.

A man in Goshen Indiana gets his "Atheist" license plate.  That took some guts and effort on his part.  I bet no one gets a "Muslim" license plate.

Atheist activist hacked to death in India.  He had a Facebook group with 400 members.  "Atheists and rationalists now form a small, embattled minority, whose rights and beliefs are the target of violence and largely unrecognised by law. Indian secularism is so rapt in the fraught debate on freedom of religion that freedom of irreligion is yet to enter the public imagination."  HIndus and Muslims seem to agree on one thing:  murder atheists.  Three have been arrested in this case.   A number of years ago, an Indian member of Atheist Nexus was found possibly murdered there, and as far as I know the case was never solved.  Ajita Kamal

Huffpost contributer speculates that Donald Trump could be atheist, although the only evidence he gives is that basically that the man doesn't participate in formal services and doesn't know the bible, which basically describes a lot of christians.  I don't want him and prefer that he's not an atheist, and I suspect that he's highly religious when it comes to worshiping the diety, "Donald Trump".

Texas school board can start its meetings with student led prayer

Atheist Student Group in Arizona makes the news.Sometimes, just existing, being visible, and being calm and rational, are all it takes.

That's about it from my news feed right now.  I hope you find  some of these stories interesting.
