Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

Well, yeah, the chest-popper was implanted in the 80's.  I think it burst out in 2010, though, when the Tea Party emerged as a serious force, and the congressional maps were Gerrymandered all to hell.

Comment by Bertold Brautigan on September 25, 2015 at 10:35am

> how far down is the bottom?

A question perhaps best put to David Barton.

Comment by Loren Miller on September 25, 2015 at 10:20am

Sadly, I have to agree, Bertold - it all began with Reagan, and the GOP has been devolving ever since.  A friend of mine, upon hearing this news, opined that it's a "race to the bottom in the house. The inmates will be ruling the asylum!"

I don't think he's far off.  Question is: how far down is the bottom?

Comment by Bertold Brautigan on September 25, 2015 at 10:06am

Heh - well, if you want to get down to brass tacks, it happened in early November of 1980.

Comment by Joseph P on September 25, 2015 at 10:03am

Didn't that happen in 2010, Bertold?

Comment by Bertold Brautigan on September 25, 2015 at 9:42am

Boehner's exit could be equivalent to the point where the baby alien emerges from the astronaut's stomach. The real horror is yet to come.

Comment by The Flying Atheist on September 25, 2015 at 9:39am

Very shocking indeed. The future of the Republican Party is definitely on the line. Will it become even more right-wing, or will it finally start to gravitate toward the center in order to save itself?

Comment by Joseph P on September 25, 2015 at 9:27am

Heh, yeah, we've had a number of other mainline Republicans retiring in disgust at what the Tea Party Republicans have done to their party.  It says something about where your party is going, if the people who were the core of the party a couple of decades ago can't tolerate it anymore.

Comment by Loren Miller on September 25, 2015 at 9:20am

Shock and amazement.  House Speaker John Boehner is resigning both from his speaker's position and Congress at the end of October.

Here's the story from CBS News.

Comment by Bertold Brautigan on September 25, 2015 at 8:49am

Giving the devil his due, it seems the pope actually said something thoughtful in his address to Congress. Cited in Mother Jones.

On religious fundamentalism: "We know that no religion is immune from forms of individual delusion or ideological extremism. This means that we must be especially attentive to every type of fundamentalism, whether religious or of any other kind. A delicate balance is required to combat violence perpetrated in the name of a religion, an ideology or an economic system, while also safeguarding religious freedom, intellectual freedom and individual freedoms. But there is another temptation which we must especially guard against: the simplistic reductionism which sees only good or evil; or, if you will, the righteous and sinners."
