Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

Given the attention span of the average voter, politics promotes those with style, over substance, competence, and good intentions.  So, that's what we often get.

Buckminster Fuller dicussed in Education Automation the fact that our education system leads to hyper specialization by the brightest minds with the effect that  we end up without competent generalists, and hence the duller people working on the biggest, most pressing problems, "although they wear their pin-striped suits beautifully."

The really talented and knowledgeable people stay the hell away from politics.  they KNOW they'll get hit up by every annoying baaa-stud with a "cause."

It's a pity, but it will be rare if we ever get people like Jefferson and Madison again.

Sorry Patricia - I hadn't seen your post.

Well, yeah.  It takes a certain amount of ego to run for office.  I'm sure that plenty of politicians who at least started out as sweet, well-meaning people, but those who do really well within our fucked up system are likely to be total bastards.  There are plenty who don't fit your description, but if we're talking averages ... yeah.  They skew quite a bit more in that direction.

Comment by Warren Jappe on April 17, 2015 at 4:24pm

I once talked to someone that said that he worked with some politicians first hand. He now runs a software site. His opinion is that a lot of them are not first line people, and not even second line too. But I suppose that's not a requirement to get voted for. IMO some are just obnoxious naturally

Comment by Joseph P on April 17, 2015 at 4:16pm

Eh, you can find something completely asinine that anyone said, if they're on the public record all the time, as politicians are.  It's only when you get to the level of Quayle and Romney, being an idiocy vending-machine, that I begin to worry.

And with Romney, it wasn't so much stupidity as much as not being used to talking to people from outside of his social circles and not adapting quickly enough.  And even a lot of the shit thrown at Quayle was a little unfair, after his stupidity became a meme, and people started doing it just for fun.  The potatoe thing, for example: he was reading it off of a card which had it misspelled, and I'm sure his mind was way the hell elsewhere, on matters of real importance, while doing an elementary-school spelling-bee.  It's funny, but I can't really blame him for that one.

Comment by Warren Jappe on April 17, 2015 at 4:07pm

Hope so, but pelosi as the then speaker of the house was third in line for the POTUS if something happened to the pres and the vice. Just hope she's not that obnoxiously dumb. But it would seem that we don't have the smartest people running the show. It's a bit scary who is

Comment by Joseph P on April 17, 2015 at 3:51pm

I think that one was a little more along the lines of a badly phrased sentiment.  I think the person who said that meant meant something more along the lines of: with a monstrosity like the Affordable Care Act, it's hard to tell how things are going to shake out after everything is implemented.  You always get unintended consequences, and then you have to patch them up afterward.

The insurance companies could just find another way to abuse customers, and we would have to take another stab at stopping them.

Things were a little incoherent, for a while there.
