Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Good night everybody. This string has been very stimulating and I hope that the same discussions are going on in atheist, christian, muslim talk. Maybe if enough of us start talking together the notion will spread and agree to make major changes.

I can't remember if I sent this playlist but here is Richard Wolff with his explanation of how our economic world got into such a mess and some things we can do.

Good night

James, indeed, ISIS concerns all reasonable people. As ISIS ratchets up its violence, christians think they have justification to ratchet up their actions. An escalation the planet cannot support.

There was a time in christian history that men left their homes, families and business to ravage the Muslims. The Christians were as cruel as Muslims are today. Although the religions are different, even tho based on Abraham, they both have strong beliefs. We also know that Christians can be brutal in their treatment of slaves and serfs.

It seems to me that everyone is harmed by all the violence and mayhem. Certainly, we can learn how to survive and thrive. The big bullies to get are the oligarchy that would make serfs of us all. Then the fundamentalists have to be stopped.

I know I dream of a utopia and I make no apology for doing so. I know from personal experience that families can learn how to live in harmony. Get religion out of the way and communities and maybe nations can learn how to participate in a spirit of caring.

The fact that they are killing journalists and bloggers who are reporting the truth about the slap-dash, plagiarized religion called "Islam" has been bothering and depressing me for months.

The mainstream media in our own country has become so chicken-shirt that they are afraid to print, or report, in detail just how widespread and vicious the True Believers really are.  And they seem to be in the majority, NOT a small group (or groups) who have "hijacked" Islam.  The peaceful, or moderate, Muslims are a distinct minority (IMO), and they can't leave their religion AT ALL.  That's a capital crime in their way of thinking.

We have some across-the-street neighbors who came here from Pakistan more than 35 years ago.  They are ordinary people,  somewhat observant, at least they fast during Ramadan, but Mrs. Hussein does NOT wear a head scarf, for one thing, nor does the Mr. wear traditional robes.  They are just nice people.

I've never asked them why they emigrated; I didn't want to be a nosy neighbor.  Their sons were born here...very sad.  The oldest died more than 10 years ago of some type of cancer, and the younger (about 25 now) has Fragile X Syndrome.  He w ill always be a child.

We have never discussed religion or politics...I hate to pry...they may have seen what was developing in Pakistan after India was partitioned, and came to the US to get away from it all right after they were married.

BUT I take the killing of journalists VERY personally.  And I am angry.

Bertold, thank you for this news about opening a Hotline by Recovering from Religion.

This paradigm shift is not going to be an easy one. Calm, level heads need to prevail now more than ever. This effort presents a good effort to help individuals clarify their feelings about this major change in their lives, and the rationale why reason offers a far better tool than religion to solve such primordial conflicts.

Felaine, this horrid news happens too often, so much so, it seems these are death throws of the end of radicalism. At least, that is what I hope. This incident is just one of many that impact the nations of the world. We need a united effort to rid countries of fundamentalism, and without killing whole communities to do it.

This kind of war action I support without any hesitation.

Extremist religious report from 06/26/2014 reveals the problems last year, and I cannot find a more recent record. Up-to-date reports will be cropping up soon, I hope.

Bad (Sickening) News

(Reuters) - Machete-wielding assailants hacked to death an American critic of religious extremism in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, in the latest of a series of attacks on writers who support freethinking values in the Muslim-majority nation.

Avijit Roy, a U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin, and his wife and fellow blogger, Rafida Ahmed, were attacked on Thursday while returning from a book fair. Ahmed was seriously injured.

I've forgotten where I read this comment, but a former Muslim (in hiding) said that "Islam is a very fragile religion."  Like all the Abrahamic religions, the True Believers must think their deity is incapable of defending his/her/it self.

Godless in Dixie blogger Neil Carter's post today noted that an international Secular Hotline Project has been launched by Recovering from Religion.

At long last, the Recovering from Religion Hotline Project is up and running! It has been years in the making, but as of this morning the real-time peer-provided secular support hotline is now fully operational.

In a press release that went out this morning, Executive Director Sarah Morehead described the hotline as:

"…an international peer support phone line for people across the many stages of religious disbelief…The Hotline also assists callers in dealing with the fallout of leaving their faith, and people who have friends or family facing these transitions. Offering emotional support and practical resources, The Hotline Project connects callers to a friendly voice with a listening ear, and provides immediate, anonymous, confidential, and compassionate encouragement with relevant resource referrals."

Well, unfortunately, Richard C. Brown, Isis is all of our problem. Believers and non-believers alike. Although Christians are misogynistic, homophobic, and theocratic, I haven't seen any of them lately beheading anyone. So I guess their 2,000 years has made them somewhat more tolerant, while 1,700 years has only brought out the worst in groups like Isis.
