Biophotons are weak emissions of light radiated from the cells of all living things. A photon is a single particle of light. Plants, animals and humans generate up to 100 photons per second, per .15 square inches (1 sq. cm) of surface area. The light is too faint to be seen by the naked eye, but biophotons have been detected and verified using photomultiplier tubes.

The relative new field of Biophotonics Has provided some interesting insight into biology and the promise of new diagnostics tools in medicine and valuable biological research tools - it does, unfortunately, also provide fodder for the proponents of bullshit “science” and the hordes of woo woo aficionados. Not only the usual suspects, but the lame proponents of the religion v. science “can't we all get along” crowd .

Proponents of alternative medicine see a possible connection between biophotons and natural healing techniques – I'm sure they do. Of course their understanding of the science is on the level of a Berkshire hog's understanding of quantum mechanics. But, anything that sounds like it might provide justification for their loony notions they will jump on like a Pit Bull on a rump roast.

It is further hypothesized that all living things might be connected together through dynamic biophoton fields. One can only guess what bullshit will arise from that notion.

While this is a very legitimate and promising field of research, the implications have presented the fringe with a play ground for their laughable and warped world view and for the “science and religion are so compatible” apologists that infest the Intertoobz.

You know, anything that isn't at absolute zero is constantly emitting photons.
True, but at what rate?
Depends on the temperature and color. However, the number of biophotons seems pitifully small compared to how much light is reflected by skin every second.

From my VERY limited reading, biophotonics looks more like the use of photon sources to tell us about biology, and not specifically about light generated from biological entities.

I love the "we are all connected" stuff. It is hilarious. Of course we are all connected with electromagnetic fields...that's the nature of force fields. We are all connected with gravitational fields too. There's nothing mystical about it.
I recently hosted a micro-debate on a FB post about homeopathy.

Quote: "On the other hand, IF, the emerging theories in quantum physics are right, about our inner connectedness and the holographic nature of the universe then in fact there is nothing but mind and all effects would be placebo, that is generated by the mind."

To which I replied, "What quantum physicist has ever said anything even close to this??"

... at which point that particular poster stopped ... maybe off to research biophotons ...
