lol, no. Was not a good thing. About 12 years ago, or so, I almost took a job with Modesto PD, Narcotics, as Modesto was the drug trafficking capitol of N. California. ;P
I'm surpriesed folks know my town lol...yeah cruising is prohibited I got a traffic ticket for that...;) and what is Modesto known for Bryanderthal? lol We are the CA monopoly on car theft (2010 estiment) or was it a good thing? we have good wine? ;)
South Santa Clara County Announcement: If you're within striking distance of Morgan Hill or Gilroy, please consider...
Morgan Hill has a Meetup.com group for freethinkers, atheists, etc. that started last year and is picking up good steam. See http://www.meetup.com/South-County-Freethinkers/
There is also a Yahoo! group for general discussion of local atheist-related topics. Visit groups.yahoo.com and search for South_Santa_Clara_County_Atheists.
I just looked to see if there were any local atheist meetings and signed up for newsletters from the San Francisco and Oakland Atheist groups. I also signed up for meetup.com where SFO, OAK, and other Atheist groups list meetings
Modesto used to be packed with people cruising in the '70's. After Hot August nights started getting popular most towns cracked down on cruising. Napa put an end to cruising after a guy blew up his clutch at a light to light drag race in town. The clutch flew apart and injured a few people standing on the sidewalk.
Growing up on the wild side of the Bay Area, we knew Modesto for a different reason, David. ;)
Modesto (y'know "american Graffiti") or "the city Lucas is from".
Who else is in the San Fernando Valley? I need more free thinking friends to meet up for hiking and whatnot.
Hello all. Good to find you here. I'm in Poway, north county San Diego. Very active in living history groups. Even though I work in an engineering group, I am surrounded by fundies. How can one be so educated yoet believe in "young Earth'? Anyway I'm presently considered the "Senior Atheist" in the group. A good badge to wear.
Hello all, I live in Napa and would like to get together with other atheists casually to talk, or go to Atheist/skeptics meetings. I used to live in a small town in NE Oregon and managed to find five, or six atheists within a 45 minute drive. We used to meet every couple of months for lunch and all went to Portland to a Humanist sponsored series of lectures and seminars. That was around 1998 and they didn't have the fortitude to call it an Atheist get together. It was sponsored by several free-thinking groups who put together some good seminars and lectures. I learned a lot and met some neat people there. The county I lived in only had 35K people in it. If we could pull five people together for Atheist lunches up there, it should be easy to do here.
Please let me know if you find out about any freethought, skeptic, humanist, atheist, or etc. meetings.
