Music to my ears to hear the female computer voice say "check mate..."

The chess software that came with my computer is called Chess Titans. It has 10 levels. I can beat it about half the time at level 7. My tactical skills aren't bad but I have never studied the openings. If I get a better early position than the computer I usually beat it but often it gets a better early position than me so I lose. Having a good early position can usually take you to the end game even against a good player but I have not studied the openings so I am inconsistent at developing good early positions.

I am not a good player, but i am trying to make chess program.I have a super computer available at college that have speed of  180 Gflops.

Computer programs now use a large database for openings as well as for end games.i am not questioning the capability of the programs but majority of them depends on the computational power.Sometimes these programs fall for anti-computer chess tactics.

In 2006, World Champion Vladimir Kramnik lost a match to Deep Fritz, 4-2.  That was thought to be the last time that a human would have an even chance in a match against a top computer.

There is no question that the top computer programs today are stronger than any human.  Rybka beats grandmasters at odds of Pawn and move.
