Reporting on white nationalism will get your news site banned by advertisers. It will also get your site targeted by Google, like Alternet. MEDIA Editorial: Google's Threat to Democracy Continues to Hit Alte...

We were getting slammed by Google’s new algorithm intended to fight “fake news.” We were losing millions of monthly visitors, and so was much of the progressive news media. Lost readership goes directly to the bottom line.

Rather than fighting "fake news" Google search algorithms tend to promote racism. How Google's Search Results Helped Miseducate and Radicalize a Raci...

How did Dylann Roof go from being someone who was not raised in a racist home to someone so steeped in white supremacist propaganda that he murdered nine African Americans during a Bible study?

The answer lies, at least in part, in the way that fragile minds can be shaped by the algorithm that powers Google Search.

It lies in the way Google’s algorithm can promote false propaganda written by extremists at the expense of accurate information from reputable sources.

Roof’s radicalization began, as he later wrote in an online manifesto, when he typed the words “black on White crime” into Google and found what he described as “pages upon pages of these brutal black on White murders.”

Mass Media recently seems to have turned away from promoting truth and getting along with other people to excusing or promoting lies and intolerance.

The Pathological Refusal to Report the Simple Truth About President...

Within the ... mainstream news “objectivity,” the simple act of calling out “lies” or “lying” by a politician—especially a president—is ... now considered controversial, partisan, inflammatory, unfair.

The absurd lengths to which corporate media will go to avoid calling presidential lies what they are has been readily apparent in the past month.

This phrasing, “falsely claims”—or “falsely asserted”—has become corporate media’s default alternative to directly accusing the powerful of lying.

Trump claimed that he’d contacted “virtually everybody” who had lost a loved one in the military since taking office. It was a reckless lie, ... In fact, only about half of the families had been contacted. We know this because Roll Call (10/20/17) caught the White House dead to rights in an exclusive story. Nevertheless, that same story pulled its punches, right from the headline: “Pentagon Document Contradicts Trump’s Gold Star Claims: Email Undermines Veracity of President’s Statement About Gold Star Contacts.”

This inanimate-object-affects-president construction is no coincidence. It’s a staple of press coverage that wants to dance around White House lying without directly confronting it.

Another crutch corporate media use when they don’t want to weigh in on the truth is the attributed “lie”—as in a CNN story (10/20/17) that ran under the headline: “Rep. Frederica Wilson: Kelly Lied About FBI Ceremony.” It’s telling that the word “lie” is not allowed to stand on its own, as an informed assessment by the reporter or editor. [emphasis mine]

When mainstream media, owned by moneyed interests, "cover" for lies that hide or distract from escalating systemic racism, from-the-top-corruption, and even treason in the US, we don't live in the same country as last year. In my view we inhabit a descent into madness, where blatant racism is symptomatic of civilization-destroying inequality tied to fossil fuel addiction. Artificial Intelligence won't cut through the sh*t, because AI is almost entirely deployed to maximize profit for the 1%. A.I. Will Serve Humans—But Only About 1% of Them

There was a time when I hoped the advent of quantum computers and AI would help humanity realize how self-limiting dysfunctionalities such as racism, class exploitation, and destroying the planet are. Now, not so much.

This article makes a powerful statement regarding Google's penchant for showing us what it thinks we want to know in that it reinforces our positions at the expense of the overall picture.  Edward R. Murrow once said that he was convinced that there were NOT on every topic two equal and valid positions to be supported, but valid or not, it's important to know they are THERE in the first place and what is going on with them.

It is far harder to fight what you are not aware of.
