Church/state separation in Germany? What about church tax, state-imposed and religion classes in public schools, health insurance and health costs for clergy members in large proportions covered by general tax money - to only name a few things.

Hello Ian - I haven't been following the debate, but believe you are correct that Germany has long since established the fact of separation of church and state.  One of the things I enjoy about living here is the lack of "religion in your face".  You won't hear a ton of "God bless" this or that, no billboards proclaiming God and Jesus as necessary requirements for a moral life, and no politicians spouting their beliefs and implementing religious ideas into public, secular laws.

Yes, life in Europe is good... ;o)
