Ex-Mormon Atheists

There seem to be a few of us ex-mo's in the Nexus and it is good to share the particular intricacies of extracting oneself from Mormonism.

Hey, gang.  Not an ex-Mormon here, but I figure if there is information I have that can benefit Formons (Former Mormons), then I darn well ought to get the word out.  As regards that, I just published a discussion regarding Brian Dalton ("Mr. Deity") and his journey from Mormonism to atheism.  I recommend it highly.

The ‘dirty little secret’ of the Mormons scrutinised again

LAST November Michael Stone, of the Progressive Secular Humanist wrote that ‘the aggressive interrogation of children about masturbation and sex by Mormon church officials constitutes child abuse’.

"The Mormon church has a dirty little secret most outsiders know nothing about: children as young as eight years old are often aggressively interrogated by local church officials about masturbation and sex. These interviews are almost always conducted by an older man, alone, with a vulnerable and frightened child.

"The interrogation and shaming of children and teenagers by the Mormon church is a routine ritual conducted in semi-annual ‘worthiness interviews’. In these interviews children are pressed to discuss their sexuality while alone with an untrained church elder, who is almost always an older man."

The issue received further attention this week when, according to the BBC, current and former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called for an end to the practice ... read on ...

I've listened to the Mormon Rant before, but it's so good, I had to listen again.

All of the above, Spud....especially the money part.

Total disgust.

Lying for Jesus, or lying for power and money?

Top Mormon Leader Tells Africans Tithing Will End Cycle Of Poverty

MORMON gangster hustles Africans: In a despicable display of greed, the leader of the Mormon church tells poor Africans that giving the church money will end their poverty.

Russell Marion Nelson Sr, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was in Nairobi, Kenya, earlier this week “to deliver a message from the Lord.”

The message: God needs your money, and if you don’t want to be poor, you have to give the Mormon church 10% of your income.

Nelson told the crowd in Nairobi: "We preach tithing to the poor people of the world because the poor people of the world have had cycles of poverty, generation after generation. That same poverty continues from one generation to another, until people pay tithing....

I don't know if anyone reads posts on this group anymore, but just in case, I still like to say something here once in a while.

I saw the Mormon church (as well as all others) were false about 22 years ago, but didn't find a group on the net to talk to like minded people until about 8 years ago.  That was when I found LifeAfterMormonism.

I enjoyed that site for about 3 years, however I finally became so annoyed with the postings of some idiots there, that I quit and came here to Atheist Nexus.  I've been here 5.5 years now.

Sadly, LifeAfterMormonism allowed people that still believed in other religions to participate, and there were more people that had other crazy beliefs than here on Atheist Nexus.

I know I get annoyed too easily, but that's how I am, and it doesn't appear that I'm going to change.

I would still love to talk to ex-Mormons, but it appears there aren't any here that want to converse.

There is an ex-Mormon Facebook site that I participated in for a while, but finally quit because of privacy concerns.

I miss the good parts of LifeAfterMormonism, and am a little sad that it had to close.

The site LifeAfterMormonism is closing near the end of July:   LifeAfterMormonism being sunsetted end of July 2017
