Ex-Mormon Atheists

There seem to be a few of us ex-mo's in the Nexus and it is good to share the particular intricacies of extracting oneself from Mormonism.

Yes, It was a massacre led by leaders of the LDS church.

The "prophet" Brigham Young may have sanctioned it, but even if he didn't, he was one cause of it.  He preached hatred for people from the east because they drove the Mormons out.

Part of the reason some drove the Mormons out was because Joseph Smith preached that his religion was going to take over the world, either by conversion, or by the sword, just like Muhammad.  He also had an army and I think destroyed a printing press that was critical of him.  He did a few other bad things as well.

Yeah, but they don't care, methinks.

Sounds like a conflict of interest on the part of that judge.

Judge Employed by Mormon Church Guts Sex Assault Suit Against… Mormon Church

Yeah, I seem to remember something about creating the entire universe as well as the flesh & bone body thing. Everything usually went in one ear & out the other though, as my mind was elsewhere during church time. I have no memory of ever buying any of it & even at baptism, I was supposed to be having all these ''feelings'', but they were never there. I just remember going home to go to bed with wet hair. No home hair dryers for us, & my hair took hours to dry, being so thick.

I seem to remember being taught that the mormon god only created earth, or a few planets, but this post, Worlds without Number - ensign, claims god created the entire universe which is infinite, and he controls it all.

Wouldn’t that mean god would have to have existed before the universe existed, and to have created something infinite in a finite amount of time? As infinity never ends, it means god is still creating the universe, and so has not created the entire universe. Ridiculousness piled on ridiculousness. Illogical.

Also, I was taught that god had a body of refined flesh and bone. That would seem to indicate he could not exist before the universe existed.

When I was a mormon, I was taught that god was not supernatural, but obeyed the laws of the universe. However, the LDS post I referred to sure sounds like a supernatural claim to me.

That post starts by saying “The heavens declare the glory of God.” To me, the heavens declare the impossibility of God.

They also have the highest teen pregnancy & suicide rates!

I never fit in with the other kids even when still being made to go to church & mother making sleepovers with other girls. I was never like them, nor comfortable around any of it.

Just listened to the Mormon rant again, myself.  What they lay on those kids is positively horrifying.  The church itself should get a fatal dose of Kick-In-The-Nuts.

Nice to see you here, Loren. Its a quiet group, but at least I have "X" moron status in common with Spud.

B. Dalton is a pleasure to watch/hear.
