Apparently Sehkmet want to "discuss" topics only with people who have the same opinion as she does.  Wow.....how boring.

Person one:  I think THIS.

Person two: I agree!!!

*crickets*

It also sounds like sehkmet thinks only women can be femninists...which I also disagree with.

If someone is so thin-skinned that they can't take the slightest dissent, perhaps discussion forums aren't their cup of tea.  Perhaps a nice safe blog with no room for comments!

I spend far more time on Newsvine because the discussions are more lively and people actually respond in a timely manner.  But I wouldn't suggest sehkmet go there....it is FAR to rough a playground for someone with such "delicate" sensibilities.

One of my feminist qualities is that I can't abide a wimpy women.  Buck up girls...it's a rough world out there.

@TNT666

You don't consider personal attacks (in complete violation of the site's TOS) and long emotional diatribes, in response to rational objections, to be a problem?

I saw the thread on trolling.  Asharu and Oryx were completely out of line for posting that and the thread about derailing.  Asharu was the one who started the antisocial behavior, which is why I took Bruce's side over hers.  I don't care if I agree with someone's base position, when they're as greatly in the wrong as those two were.

Feminist organizations have turned their efforts towards preserving those area of society where they receive special benefits, and denying equality for men in areas where men are victims of discrimination. To achieve these goals, they are prepared to lie and violate what Western society considers basic civil rights.  You've seen the lying and the slander on this forum.  You've seen the demonizing of those who do not believe the Feminist Mythology.

You don't call this trolling?

I do oppose feminism.

Or this?

I have to fall back on the fact that I frequently see cases in the news where a woman has falsely accused a man of rape or sexual assault. (topic was feds under counting rape victims)

How about this?

How is posting two and three times in a row with no other posters in between and flooding the forum with their posts not derailing, which is typical troll behavior?

How is cross posting from other topics not trolling.

Many of these behaviors are against the rules and guidelines for Atheist Nexus.  If a few trolls go off topic why aren't they opening another thread?  The fact that they don't is derailing.

There is a reason that groups have names, to describe what the group is for. I can't see how any of these troll's posts give a feminist views and experiences of atheism.  They are trolling.

Pamela your definition of trolling is too limited and wrong. Maybe we should place rational truth bearing male Joseph as the moderator to the feminist group to ensure none of us crazy outlandish feminists can discuss any topic which males disagree with? There have been a couple of links posted recently about the definition of troll, I suggest you read them.

Sehkmet,

What you describe is "off-topic posting"...not trolling.  Trolls purposely post outrageous inflammatory material to get people riled up.  These discussions went off topic, mostly becasue the only people who stayed in the thread wnted to discuss the off topic subject.  If anyone WANTED to continue the original discussion they could have.  You are supposing that the off-topic posters had some sort of power to stop everyone else from posting.  But they can't do that.  I post on Newsvine all the time and there are side discussions and threads often go off-topic once the origianl topic has been abandoned.

I think you are inventing a "problem" that doesn't really exist.

Donna, I'm hoping to find out how to get a new moderator.  I'd be willing to do it if I can learn the technical end of it.  I can't imagine that this would be difficult.  Something certainly needs to be done if we want to reclaim this sight for feminist perspectives on atheism.

Only one of the people involved in the discussion wasn't a feminist.  I was only on his side because the two feminists were arguing very dishonestly.  If my own faction is doing wrong, I oppose them in it.  It's called cleaning up your own back yard.

As atheists, we run into the same thing with the emotional "atheists" who are mad at God and aren't really atheists.  We teach them skepticism and turn them into good atheists.

Sehkmet, you do have a point. I did see some of those discussions and mostly just left when the discussion went awry. What is your answer? A moderator? I don't have time to do that, do you?  Should we petition "management" for a moderator?

Donna, if you regularly went to the group and read the posts instead of getting only topic headings in your email would see the following.

Unashamedly feminist:

After eight on topic posts (3 by women), an off topic post was made and the balance of the discussion stayed off topic because the troll kept posting about it.

Feds under counting rape victims:

Men dominated this discussion ( 38 posts as opposed to 3 by women).  Two trolls dominated the discussion by complaining about a dispute over an irrelevant statistic from another topic.

Rape redefined:

The topic was completely derailed by two trolls (the usual suspects) over an insignificant statistical difference.  They were outraged that the originator of the topic said 2% instead of 6% of convicted rapists ever see prison.

The salary gap between men and women for similar work:

Derailing the topic because one troll didn't like how the originator expressed the size of the pay gap - percentage instead of actual dollars.

A second troll denied there is any gap at all based on studies of a superficial nature.  The studies document that women work fewer hours and take time off without acknowledging the reasons women are forced to do this, the by and large refusal of men to do child, elder care, and the rest of the work women stereotypically do.  I know there are exceptions, we are talking about the common division of labor between genders.

Some random quotes by trolls

Feminist organizations have turned their efforts towards preserving those area of society where they receive special benefits, and denying equality for men in areas where men are victims of discrimination. To achieve these goals, they are prepared to lie and violate what Western society considers basic civil rights.  You've seen the lying and the slander on this forum.  You've seen the demonizing of those who do not believe the Feminist Mythology.

I do oppose feminism.

You should be truly ashamed of yourself for fabricating and perpetuating such obviously false statements regarding such a serious subject.  asharu, if you find yourself having to lie in order to support your opinions, then it is time for you to abandon those opinions. (Ad hominem not allowed by the rules and guidelines)

I have to fall back on the fact that I frequently see cases in the news where a woman has falsely accused a man of rape or sexual assault. (topic was feds under counting rape victims)

It's not an obsession with percentages.  If anything, that statement describes the initial post that started this whole mess.  What Bruce was objecting to from the word go was a grotesque misuse of the statistics that were presented. (2% vs 6%?)

There is a general argumentative tone from these trolls and a willingness to derail over petty, insignificant, and irrelevant details.

These are specific instances where men posting have made trouble.  Please bear in mind that this is a forum to discuss feminist perspective on atheism.

I agree with Pamela that we aren't being silenced when we choose not to post.  It seems to me a mountain is being made of a molehill here about spamming and the need for a moderator.  I wish I had time to count how many people and of what gender post here, but I have other things to do.  I have comments on this and other groups emailed to me and then can post when I see something interesting.
