Happy Fifth Anniversary Daniel and Ning!
Breakfast for two!
I watch my sugars, salts, fats, & not only for the health reasons, but for the simple fact I don't like much of it. Sure we occasionally have a prepared food if I'm exhausted, but much prefer my own cooking from scratch.
A couple of articles worth reading on sugar corporations and heart disease....
I'm always reading packages in the supermarket and that helps a lot! We're better off buying unprepared food and preparing it ourselves. We've got used to the natural taste of food and don't enjoy food from packages much. The sugar tin is getting dusty...
Yes, I've read several books and articles about the dangers of sugar and where and how much is added to packaged foods. It's pretty scary. No wonder we're a society of "fatties".
And why do they have to over- salt pretzels?
Beets are plenty sweet enough on their own! GEESH!
I feel the same about added salt to many things, & too much of it as well. I for one like my French fries unsalted, but when I go out, many places serve them already salted, & I just don't like not having the choice.
Personally, if someone wants sweetening or salting, then shakers on the table should be enough.
Undoing the damn stuff doesn't work.....hahahaha.
I use avocado oil a lot, often mixing it with olive oil for additional flavor. It's suitable for higher temperatures, and it's cheap at Costco.
You're right about sugar and salads, Patricia. I once sent a local Whole Foods a nastygram in this regard. I'd bought a beet salad without bothering to read the ingredients. It was totally repulsive at first bite it was so loaded with sugar. What kind of pervert is going to put sugar in a beet salad???
I eat an egg almost every day, & apparently I have cholesterol numbers to ''envy''.
I use canola, peanut, olive, butter.....depends what I'm making.
I HATE sugar added to everything & I think it ruins any salad, from potato to cole slaw, to dressings, & it really wrecks tomato sauces for me.
I've lost my taste for eggs, but have started eating about one a day for a week now. I put them in dishes that have quite a bit of carbohydrates but little protiens or fats. That's to keep my blood sugar levels low.
It sounds like that may be too many for my health, so I'll try finding something else to add protien and or fat to those dishes.
Wikipedia claims that canola oil has no bad effects on health and probably some good ones.
