I'm a sandwich guy myself. I so love a good deli sandwich on some good Jewish or Polish Rye bread with a side of soup, cole slaw or potato salad. Corned beef, roasted turkey, lean roast beef.......any of those is the perfect lunch for me. And you gotta have a good crunchy garlic dill pickle.
Food is a great way to share with friends. I cook, my wife cooks and all of my sons cook. It was must in our family. That said, I am a sandwich man. There was a detective in one Lawrence Sanders books who regularly made wet sandwiches that he ate over the sink. That's me. I scour the pantry and refrigerator looking for good things to put on some type of bread.
I don't cook at all. When I lived on my own it was frozen dinners.
I like seafood. Too bad i have allergies. Had one shrimp the other day and my dad was afraid that I was going to stop breathing.
Haven't swam in the ocean since I was about 8. We were vacationing in Key West and I got stung by a jellyfish. Been afraid of the ocean ever since. No problem with swimming pools or man made lakes.
Thanks for the invite. I love food.
Daniel, I very much like chickpeas and buy hummus from a store once in a while, but it's not great. I want to make my own. How do you make it?
Oh, yes Patricia. Now you mentioned it, I seem to remember abalone needing pounding, and I think I did do that before cooking.
Yours truly LOVES good food. My wife and I regularly enjoy Mexican, Indian, Italian, Greek, Lebanese, Chinese and Japanese Hibachi. We just had jambalaya for dinner a few days ago and I'm looking forward to her killer gumbo this weekend. Also had a Peruvian restaurant open up not far from us and that was fun to explore. Steak now and then is good, and I LOVE a good burger! Haven't tried sushi yet, but some time or other...!In my travels, I've been lucky enough to have felafel in Israel, curry in India and Pepper Crab in Singapore (VERY messy but VERY GOOD!). I've also been able to drink Guinness in Ireland (oh, MAN!!!) and single-malt whisky in Scotland (YUM!).Put succinctly, LET'S EAT!
I like almost all foods. Just wish I enjoyed cooking.
I think I might enjoy cooking more if I were doing it with friends like you speak of Joan. Sounds wonderful.
Swimming is fun for me also, plus I took-up SCUBA diving when I lived in California. I was a little concerned about sharks and I nearly drowned once, but still enjoyed it.
I picked-up a few abalone when I went diving, but never learned how to cook them so they tasted good. Never ate the expensive things at a restaurant, so don't know if I'd like them any better there.
I like all seafood except crab and lobster (& abalone?). They taste too bland. But I do very much like the little lobster like critters that I've harvested from fresh water, called crayfish. Also called crawfish, crawdads mudbugs, or freshwater lobsters. At least I like the ones I got from a creek near where I live.
