Former Saturday Night Live star turned conservative activist Victoria Jackson appeared on Showbiz Tonight to defend her opinion that the kiss between Glee characters Kurt and Blaine was “sickening.”

Last week Jackson slammed the kiss in a column for WorldNetDaily, where she said Glee “made a mockery of Christians.” On Monday she appealed to religion once again when asked to clarify her position on Headline News.

The Huffington Post reports that Jackson said, “Well, it doesn't matter what I think. What matters is what the Bible says. And I'm really concerned about our country because immorality is, well, let's see: Secular humanism rules the airwaves, and it's stealing the innocence away from this whole generation of children. My daughter is a teenager and I can’t find any show that she can watch.”

Asked whether she is homophobic, Jackson replied, “That's a cute little buzzword of the liberal agenda. Basically, the Bible says that homosexuality is a sin.”

As the segment closed, Jackson said that she has gay friends.

Several generations ago, John Kenneth Galbraith said that "Modern conservatives are engaged in mankind's oldest exercise in moral philosophy: the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

Nothing has changed, but now it could equally be said that they're also engaged in a search for a moral justification for bigotry.  Of course they find it in the Bible, which can be used to justify about anything, including infanticide and even genocide.  But wrapping up bigotry in religious garb is no different that putting lipstick on a pig - it's still a pig, and Ms. Jackson, I hate to inform you of this, but pointing to the bible doesn't make bigotry any less bigotry.

There is an exception to putting lipstick on a pig leaving us in every instance with "just a pig": Sarah Palin.
You are right, of course.  Putting lipstick on Sarah Palin leaves us with Sarah Palin.  To suggest that it would make her a pig would, of course, be an insult to porcine animals everywhere.
"the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." - much more articulate than I am.  I have long viewed religious conservatives as the most narcississtic of people, whether they are christian muslim or jewish.  Their god seems to justify every selfish thought and act, and reqards them with eternal bliss.
Proof, if any where needed, that God always, and in every case, hates the same groups the believer does.
In one or another of his writings, the infamous "black magician" (a tautology, that) Aleister Crowley put it well.  He said, "The Devil is the God of those one personally dislikes."

I love it when she says she has gay friends.  Icing on the cake.

Now what is "sickening" about this?

We can't have two MEN kissing!  They are an abomination unto the Lord.  They should be stoned to death.
Yeah.  Cutting each others heads off or beating each other to death = awesome.  Kissing = sickening.
just not with a rock n a sock.  bible doesnt say anything about socks..

I am not aware of anything in the Bible that prescribes any procedural method of stoning; only that the punishment is that the victim is to be stoned.  As a consequence, all manner of methods of stoning have arisen over the centuries, both in Christianity and in Islam.  I won't go into the various methods - you might be eating dinner as you read this - so let me just say that some are more grisly than others.  They vary from the simple and obvious to the arcane and ritualized.

Kinda like how the United States carries out its capital punishment.  A simple bullet to the back of the head as the Bolsheviks did would suffice, of course, but the U.S. ritualizes it to the extent that it becomes the most expensive form of punishment around.  All in the name of being "humane" - which strikes me as being about as oxymoronic as the conservatives declaring themselves to be more moral than thou.

I like to imagine that the boobs who wrote the booble didn't have to give specific rules for stoning because EVERYONE knew how to properly stone.
