Welcome to Gay / LGBTQI Atheists & friends!

I will be taking a reduced role at Atheist Nexus as of Oct 1, 2017. I will not be moderating this group after that time, and I will be re-zeroing most of my groups and comments.

That will leave this group without a moderator. Since this group was started by a member who hasn't visited Nexus for many years, it is not possible to select or designate a moderator. Instead, I will send notification to Br. Richard that the group will be without a moderator. It will then be up to him to decide how to proceed.

Since this is a popular group, I recommend that a member start up a new group for quotations, so that the members can continue adding and reading their favorite quotes.

Thanks and happy reading!

Thinking more about what tangible thing can be done to help African LGBT people.

I think most congresspeople will either ignore a letter (conservatives) or might be inspired to shine light on the topic (Liberals).  So maybe writing letters, or inspiring others to do so, to liberal politicians.  Such as those in my state, WA.

Here is y search on the White House petition website.  I don't see anything on Africa related to LGBT people.    Also, there is only one topic on LGBT people, which relates to ENDA.  There is no mention of this in immigration topics.

So I think there is no White House petition regarding the plight of LGBT people in either SubSaharan Africa or Muslim countries.

I think it would be good to start a White House petition. Some of the petitions are by crack pots, and some are serious.   I will ponder this a bit.  Any thoughts or comments?

What can an ordinary person do to help people trapped in these terrible places? I have been asking myself this because we have at least one LGBT member on Nexus who lives in Uganda, but I ask myself this anyway.

We support our president in his criticism of these terrible regimes. I'm glad for that.

We can spread the word to anyone who is willing to listen. I do that myself when I have opportunity.

We can continue to criticize and expose the christian colonialists who proselytize antigay hate.

We can support our politicians in creation of asylum.

How could we do that? Is there a white house petition process we could use? I think that might be a good idea....

Any thoughts about tangible ways to support LGBT people in Africa and Muslim countries?

Abuse from the Egyptian government as well.

Egypt Court Sentences Four Gays to Prison

A court in Egypt sentenced four men to up to eight years in prison on Monday for practicing homosexuality, a judicial official said.

Prosecutors had accused the men of holding "deviant parties" and dressing in women's clothes. Three were sentenced to eight years and the fourth to three years in prison.

Prosecutors have used a law banning "debauchery" to try homosexuals in the past.

Those accused of homosexuality are often forced to undergo medical tests to establish they are "habitual" gays, a practice rights groups have decried as abusive.

Homosexuality is not tolerated across the Middle East and much of Africa.

I mean, why can't a supposed christian.....

Chrissie I wonder that about some, but Lively is so vile, so obsessed, so full of hate and lies, I think his psychopathology must go deeper. Maybe he was sexually abused. Pure speculation on my part of course. Or maybe horribly bullied. Regardless, that is no excuse to instigate vilification, murder, scapegoating, discrimination, ruined lives. I've know a couple of Cambodians who went through more than Lively could have in one lifetime, and a Bosnian who lost family in the war there. A once knew a man who was in a Germsn concentration camp. They may have never gotten over it, but they did move on, and were not hate filled animals. And I saw some abuse myself. I suppose I got over it too, except the rare moments. but I can forgive too. Why can a supposed christian like Lively?

I just wonder if Mr. Lively is having a very strong internal struggle with his own same sex desires.  So many people who are so committed to the hatred of a certain lifestyle or group in reality are bringing their internal struggle into the open by professing irrational hatred for that group.  They fall hard when they are caught out but that is no consolation for all of those killed or maimed by their actions.

Makes you wish there was a place such as Hell so that this group of offensive people would have a place to go.

Daniel, yes indeed, it was worthwhile. Thanks.

Felaine, another good question. That is a good one for adding to the list of questions for theists. Thanks
