It does happen - a "conversion" in the right direction.

Interview with the author of The Bible's Yes to Same Sex Marriage

Mark Achtemeier has been a minister with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) since 1984, and for much of his ministry he characterized himself as a “conservative anti-gay activist.” As a pastor and an associate professor of theology and ethics at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Achtemeier wrote and spoke against the ordination of gay and lesbian ministers and co-wrote a declaration of faith that an anti-ordination coalition adopted.

That began to change in 2001, Achtemeier says when he made friends with some gay and lesbian Christians, some of whom had tried everything in their power to “change” their sexual orientation or had embraced a life of celibacy.

“It was producing broken people,” he told me, “and it wasn’t just isolated instances of this. I saw more and more of this and came away from these experiences thinking something is wrong with this picture. That got me writing and asking questions.”

Here's the interview:

Sentient - I too read something about children raised by same-sex parents being a bit more empathetic and less bound to rigid gender roles. (And the problem with that is...?)

@ Sentient - now that is a PERFECT example of right wing nutcase logic! Another argument against gay marriage is it wrecks Oscar Wilde's claim that "'Marriage' and 'bigamy' are much the same; both mean having one wife too many."

I remember as far back as 1967 (and farther) when police in some towns (cities) raided gay bars just for the hell of it. Once in Minneapolis, our company manager had to bail out most of the boys chorus line (and a couple of principal skaters) one day, or we would not have been able to put on a show.  All that was going on, as far as I know, was that the guys were having a drink or two, and meeting some of the "locals."  That was NEVER an actual crime!

@GC -- no kidding! As some pundit a while back put it, "The love that dare not speak its name has become the love that won't shut up!" I'm still waiting to hear how it is that marriage equality "threatens" traditional marriage. It's kind of like waiting for god to answer a prayer!

That is quite a reversal from the times when courts routinely considered LGB people diseased criminals, to this hearing, when the best argument presented against equal marriage is that same-sex couples are "too responsible" to need it!

Wisconsin and Indiana's arguments against gay marriage apparently did not go so well for them:
