I dont have links, but I have read that same sex marriages tend to be more egalitarian compared to opposite sex marriages. There is a hint of evidence that children raised in same sex parent families, may be more balanced and well socialized too. That will be the next argument against marriage equality. if gay married couples are more mutually supportive, and give their kids a better start in life, that makes "traditional families" look bad, and feel bad, Families are supposed to be dysfunctional, therefore gay marriages threaten "tradional marriages" by setting too high a standard.

I remember as far back as 1967 (and farther) when police in some towns (cities) raided gay bars just for the hell of it. Once in Minneapolis, our company manager had to bail out most of the boys chorus line (and a couple of principal skaters) one day, or we would not have been able to put on a show.  All that was going on, as far as I know, was that the guys were having a drink or two, and meeting some of the "locals."  That was NEVER an actual crime!

@GC -- no kidding! As some pundit a while back put it, "The love that dare not speak its name has become the love that won't shut up!" I'm still waiting to hear how it is that marriage equality "threatens" traditional marriage. It's kind of like waiting for god to answer a prayer!

That is quite a reversal from the times when courts routinely considered LGB people diseased criminals, to this hearing, when the best argument presented against equal marriage is that same-sex couples are "too responsible" to need it!

Wisconsin and Indiana's arguments against gay marriage apparently did not go so well for them:

Equal marriage does threaten one thing: religious conservatives' worldview that their "god-given" traditional prejudice is somehow the one "true", "right", and "natural" way, and government going along with it somehow ennobles and validates it. (As opposed to other believers' equally revered "god-given" rules, or to actual reason, empathy, and morality.) And that delusion needs to be threatened! (Yes, I'm preaching to the choir, and possibly a few actual former preachers who are members here!)

Anyway, the person who literally put words in the dog's mouth couldn't have said it better!

This is hilarious, TFA, and so true. I've always wanted an answer to the question just exactly how it is that marriage equality "threatens" "traditional" marriage. Are "straight" marriages so fragile that someone you don't even know getting married in another state somewhere is going to destroy them? David Sedaris has a wonderful short story titled "I Break for Traditional Marriage."
