Welcome to Gay / LGBTQI Atheists & friends!

I will be taking a reduced role at Atheist Nexus as of Oct 1, 2017. I will not be moderating this group after that time, and I will be re-zeroing most of my groups and comments.

That will leave this group without a moderator. Since this group was started by a member who hasn't visited Nexus for many years, it is not possible to select or designate a moderator. Instead, I will send notification to Br. Richard that the group will be without a moderator. It will then be up to him to decide how to proceed.

Since this is a popular group, I recommend that a member start up a new group for quotations, so that the members can continue adding and reading their favorite quotes.

Thanks and happy reading!

This photo of myself and my partner Craig was used in the Harvard Crimson yesterday to accompany an article about a university Kiss-In. When being interviewed for the article I talked a lot about my Humanism, and about Humanist approaches to sex and sexuality. Hope you like it!

Thanks for posting that Daniel. I understand about the PTSD. I've seen a few kids from my hometown sign up to Nexus in the last few days. Maybe one of these days, some of them will end up in this group.

Thanks Mike. I needed a good laugh.

Although I know the cartoon is depicting Phelps, I couldn't help to wonder for who's father-in-law that cake was intended!!!!! :)

Thanks for sharing that, Daniel. It brought a tear to my eye. Both eyes, actually. Kudos to the students, as well as the faculty and parents who supported them.

This was embedded in a separate discussion topic. It's a great positive message.

I'm so happy that some kids today know the embrace of their communities. I think I still have some PTSD from my uwn upbringing, long ago. Seems like it's possible to move on, but the scars never completely heal. What these kids have is what I wish for the next generation everywhere.

Jason,
That's a great insight! Thanks!

Actually the etymology for the word marriage is of Latin origin. The implication was of a male's dominance when selecting a concubine for the sole purpose of rendering an offspring, particularily a male, thereby perpetuating the man's lineage. Furthermore, it was common for men to share sexual experiences with other men regerdless of their matrimonial status. So realistically the fight for gay unions in the context marriage is not necessarily about fighting for the privilege to marry as much as it is deemed a social status which carries with it privileges which are denied to others. This country has unjustifiably granted favortism to heterosexual married couples with children crossing the invisible line between church and state.

I think yall are taking the pic all wrong. I would expect the most practical interpretation is that both are single straight men who want to marry women. I've seen paper moon photos like that before with only one man or woman in the shot. But then, you never can tell. I refuse to totally rain on this parade:)

well.. as non-theists.. im not sure why we would want "marriage" to begin with since the word in and of itself is religious (biblical even I believe) in origin
