Welcome to Gay / LGBTQI Atheists & friends!

I will be taking a reduced role at Atheist Nexus as of Oct 1, 2017. I will not be moderating this group after that time, and I will be re-zeroing most of my groups and comments.

That will leave this group without a moderator. Since this group was started by a member who hasn't visited Nexus for many years, it is not possible to select or designate a moderator. Instead, I will send notification to Br. Richard that the group will be without a moderator. It will then be up to him to decide how to proceed.

Since this is a popular group, I recommend that a member start up a new group for quotations, so that the members can continue adding and reading their favorite quotes.

Thanks and happy reading!

I'm sure that almost every gay alive was brainwashed to be straight, but that didn't stop all of us from being being gay. I like to imagine all of us gays getting married to people of the opposite sex, like he suggests is the best course of action. What a fucked up mess that would be.

NY candidate for governor not exactly courting the gay vote. "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual" in his prepared but nonpresented statement. He did state, he didn't want children "to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid or successful option," compared to heterosexuality. "It isn't," Paladino said at a stop in Brooklyn, New York.

There's nothing to be proud of in being a shameless bigot, either.

Situation not known, so this stands alone at face value. Another gay teen commits suicide. Raymond Chase in Rhode Island

I know I went through a period of severe depression at the same age, and self destructive behavior. This tears me up.

Antigay christian asst atty general in michigan on leave of absence. Despite the bad things that happen, such as suicides of young people and harassment, there is progress. Bit by bit.

The phrase "End Human Bankruptcy" really caught my attention. I too have been mulling over this idea recently. It lead me to post on another forum a list of 144 (plus 6 you come up with) ideas to help build a community: http://bettertogether.org/150ways.htm

I see the connection in that maybe if some of these young people had felt they had someone they could turn to and trust--be it a friend, family member, community leader, etc. maybe these deaths could have been prevented. It's certainly worth trying to reach out to others, say hello and lend a hand once in awhile if there is even a chance that you could prevent this sort of thing from happening close to your home.

Continuing prior comment, this article on nj.com suggests Ravi could face up to 5 years. I doubt that he'll serve 5 minutes. My gut tells me he won't. Well, there's some justice - his name is going to be famous for 15 minutes for being a homophobic cyberbully. And poissibly his friend Molly Wei, although Im not clear on her role in this.

Young man commits suicide after his roommate live-streams his "making out with a dude". "On Sept. 19, Ravi appears to tweet, "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay." Ravi faces two additional counts of invasion of privacy for allegedly attempting to use the camera to view and transmit another sexual encounter involving the same student just two days later, said Kaplan.

At the very least, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei should be suspended. Frankly, I would love to see them mboth in jail for a while. Ravi is at an age where he would be prime "raw meat" for his cell mate. Then he might learn that actions have consequences. Equal for Molly Wei if she is equally responsible. I doubt that the laws they broke would entail a jail sentence, but their actions may violate the university's code of conduct. I hope.
