Antigay christian asst atty general in michigan on leave of absence. Despite the bad things that happen, such as suicides of young people and harassment, there is progress. Bit by bit.

The phrase "End Human Bankruptcy" really caught my attention. I too have been mulling over this idea recently. It lead me to post on another forum a list of 144 (plus 6 you come up with) ideas to help build a community:

I see the connection in that maybe if some of these young people had felt they had someone they could turn to and trust--be it a friend, family member, community leader, etc. maybe these deaths could have been prevented. It's certainly worth trying to reach out to others, say hello and lend a hand once in awhile if there is even a chance that you could prevent this sort of thing from happening close to your home.

Continuing prior comment, this article on suggests Ravi could face up to 5 years. I doubt that he'll serve 5 minutes. My gut tells me he won't. Well, there's some justice - his name is going to be famous for 15 minutes for being a homophobic cyberbully. And poissibly his friend Molly Wei, although Im not clear on her role in this.

Young man commits suicide after his roommate live-streams his "making out with a dude". "On Sept. 19, Ravi appears to tweet, "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay." Ravi faces two additional counts of invasion of privacy for allegedly attempting to use the camera to view and transmit another sexual encounter involving the same student just two days later, said Kaplan.

At the very least, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei should be suspended. Frankly, I would love to see them mboth in jail for a while. Ravi is at an age where he would be prime "raw meat" for his cell mate. Then he might learn that actions have consequences. Equal for Molly Wei if she is equally responsible. I doubt that the laws they broke would entail a jail sentence, but their actions may violate the university's code of conduct. I hope.

I Wanna Be A Macho Man: The Prosperity Gospel According to Eddie Long
reverend eddie long

Sikivu Hutchinson: In America being a macho man and a professional homophobe is big business, one that jeopardizes the lives and mental health and wellness of thousands of gays and lesbians. Regardless of whether the allegations against Long are true or not, his prosperity gospel of gay-bashing and robber baron profiteering at the expense of poor black people is another indictment of the moral injustice that happens on "God's" watch.

No one knows if the allegations are true, but seriously, the pics in this video are pretty gay. Also, I don't know why anyone wants to know wtf Ted Haggard has to say about anything.

Im cross posting this because it's relevant in discussions of race and sexual orientation. Scathing editorial in The Root, by Craig Washington "A Sermon for Bishop Eddie Long". "Accusations of sexual misconduct against the popular Atlanta pastor are a warning for all churchgoers who have fallen victim to charisma, bling ministries and leaders who engender fear and loathing."

Not being in Atlanta, this is the first I've heard of this minister and his church. I liked some of the language of the author, "So as the story of Bishop Eddie Long swells from Facebook to CNN, engorged by our lust for fallen giants and monsters, let us not lose our heads. Let us learn the lessons that the legion and their leader willfully chose to ignore. "

We actually have no proof that Eddie Long has been abusing young men in his Church. It's just their word against his, for the moment. With "the church" being so central to the US black community in so many towns and cities, is there any alternative? "Atheism" doesnt seem to offer up much. Random observations.

Kellie, thanks for remining us of the connectionions between militant homophobia and fundamentalism, and demagoguery. This is a frightening video, these scapegoating macchiavelian leaders will stop at nothing to discriminate.

Not for the faint of heart.
